When deciding to appoint Thomas Tuchel as England coach, the Football Association (FA) hoped his love life would not be a distraction.
The 51-year-old coach is known for his stern personality, but his off-field activities sometimes attract unwanted attention.
With the exception of a poor 2023-24 season at Bayern Munich, Tuchel's footballing acumen is largely unquestionable, especially when it came to guiding Chelsea to Champions League glory at a time when the club was in near chaos in 2021.
But Tuchel's private life was a hot topic for Chelsea players during his final days at Stamford Bridge in 2022 - with players discussing his marriage to wife, Sissi, and 37-year-old Brazilian girlfriend, Natalie Max.
His private life is believed to have been a contributing factor to his dismissal as it changed the players' perception of him.
Tuchel married his ex-wife Sissi in 2009 and has two daughters together.
In April 2022, they announced their divorce after 13 years of marriage. Friends of the couple said that the two had "exhausted all options" and had no hope of reconciliation.
They therefore filed for divorce and officially separated in May, after the London High Court accepted the request.
A source said: "Sissi and Thomas tried to avoid splitting up but in the end there was no other way. It's sad and now it's all about making sure their daughter is the priority."
Sissi, a former journalist, moved to England in August 2021, seven months after Tuchel joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain.
He initially stayed in a hotel before the family settled in Cobham, Surrey, near Chelsea's training ground.
Sissi gave up her job at the German newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, to take care of her family.
While he was PSG coach, Tuchel and his family lived in the posh Hauts-de-Seine area of Paris.
Sissi is credited with helping Tuchel succeed in his managerial career, helping him win trophies in Germany, France and England.
"Sissi is not stupid, she is not a typical footballer's wife, she is an intelligent woman," the source said.
But it didn't take Tuchel long to get over his marriage, as he was seen with new Brazilian girlfriend Natalie Max in July.
They were seen relaxing on a boat in Sardinia before returning to their £20,000-a-night private villa.
Tuchel and mother-of-two Natalie are said to be "smitten". A source told MailOnline at the time: "They have been dating since May and things have become serious. Natalie flew to Sardinia to spend her first holiday with Thomas and they have been spending quality time together in west London, where she lives with her two children and dog.
Tuchel is really lovely and makes Natalie's friends feel welcome, he's definitely in for a long time.”
FA chiefs will hope the same is true of Tuchel with England.
Tuchel is known to be a bookworm and obsessive about detail. His original dream was to become a helicopter pilot.
A fan of soul band Simply Red, Tuchel lives a clean lifestyle, follows a vegetarian diet and prefers warm water to wine.
German journalist Taufig Khalil believes that this approach is not always accepted by Bayern Munich fans: "People do not appreciate Tuchel because Munich is a city of beer, big meals with lots of meat while he prefers salads, warm water and vegetarian food."
