After retiring from competition, former volleyball player Pham Thi Yen is working in the coaching staff of the Information Corps women's volleyball team. In early 2025, she received a decision to promote her to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, becoming one of the youngest Lieutenant Colonels in the entire army.
Although she no longer competes professionally, the former "female volleyball player" of Vietnam always receives a lot of attention. "Work will create us people. Female athletes will lack feminism and softness. I am a very strong person, rarely showing weakness. I have grown up in the military environment.
I am very strict with myself, my life or practice schedule is arranged, strictly implemented, and I am strict... So maybe, I will also be strict with others.
I think, men must be very brave when loving women who play sports. They must have great sympathy, understanding, and sharing. Men must understand what women who are too strong will need, so that they know what they should do to maintain their emotions and balance the relationship.
And even though I am strong, I do not go looking for men, but when they come, they must show their mettle to me," said former player Pham Thi Yen.
