Currently, drowning in children in Hai Duong province tends to increase, especially during summer vacation and holidays. Faced with this situation, many families have proactively taken their children to swimming classes at reputable centers, as a practical way to care for and love children in the summer.
In Hai Duong City, Cam Giang, Nam Sach, Thanh Ha districts..., many swimming classes have started operating since the beginning of June and continuously accept students in the morning and afternoon.
Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong - a parent with a child studying in grade 5 in Tu Minh ward (Hai Duong city) shared: "Last year, in the commune next to it, there was a case of a child tragically drowning. From then on, I found that letting my children learn to swim is not only to exercise but also an important survival skill. As parents, everyone wants their children to be safe."
Ms. Le Thu Huyen (Quang Trung ward, Hai Duong city) said: "My husband and I take turns taking our children to the swimming class in the evening. The child is only 7 years old but very excited. Every time I come back from school, I boast today that I know how to float on water." For her, spending time with her children during swimming lessons is also an opportunity to bond with the family, creating memorable summer memories.
Mr. Vu Van Trong (Hong Hung commune, Gia Loc district) confided: "We are in rural areas, surrounded by many ponds and lakes. My son is only in high school, so I am very worried. Registering my child to go swimming school is to feel more secure when he goes out with friends". He added that his neighbors were also taking him swimming school to prevent risks.
According to records, most swimming classes have professional tour guides, many places also invite physical education teachers or professional swimming coaches. Parents can choose classes at swimming pools in schools, sports centers or reputable private facilities. The tuition fee ranges from 1.2 to 2 million VND for a course of 10 - 12 sessions.
To improve knowledge and skills in drowning prevention in children, the Hai Duong Provincial Youth Union has also organized many drowning prevention programs for children. In particular, the youth volunteer team, district youth union, and swimming teachers at schools are the core force, regularly popularizing swimming and promoting escape skills for children in the province.
The communication sessions help students understand the causes of drowning, basic swimming techniques, how to handle situations and provide first aid to drowning victims.
In Hai Duong province, the goal is that by 2030, 70% of students will practice drowning prevention skills according to Decision No. 1717 of the Prime Minister.
Departments and branches of the organization are actively implementing communication solutions, educating preventive skills and organizing safe swimming lessons for students. Many localities have invested in facilities, built swimming pools, and improved the capacity of swimming teachers to popularize this skill to many students every summer.
