On January 15, the entertainment program Radio Star of MBC Korea aired with one of the guests being actress Goo Hye Sun.
Appearing on television, Goo Hye Sun attracted attention because she wore a large woolen hat, while her curly hair was left loose on both sides, covering part of her face.
When asked what she prepared for the Radio Star recording, Goo Hye Sun said, “I brought a lot of blotting papers. My skin is prone to acne. My skin produces so much oil that if I don’t use blotting papers, my makeup will run.”
Kim Gu Ra then mentioned Goo Hye Sun's hairstyle and suggested, "If your face is so oily, wouldn't it be better to take off your hat and slick your hair back?"
Goo Hye Sun laughed and replied, “There is a reason why I wear a woolen cap. I was going to wash my hair today, but the boiler broke down so I couldn’t wash it. The producer asked me to take off my cap, but I really couldn’t do that in this situation.”
When the show aired, Goo Hye Sun received a lot of criticism. Viewers said she lacked basic manners, was unprofessional, and disrespected viewers.
“That’s a ridiculous reason,” “Can’t you go to the hair salon?”, “The broken boiler is just a lie,” “It’s a matter of basic etiquette,” “Her attitude even when the director asked her to take off her hat makes me uncomfortable” — many comments arguing about Goo Hye Sun’s appearance.
Amidst the conflicting opinions, on January 16, Goo Hye Sun spoke up with her own opinion. She said: “Wearing a fur hat to an entertainment program that is meant to be funny is not an impolite or rude attitude. It is not a place that requires politeness. This is my personal right. But I am grateful for your comments.”
However, Goo Hye Sun quickly deleted the post. The actress's behavior confused many people.
Previously, in the program, Goo Hye Sun shared about her academic achievements over the past time.
The actress graduated from Sungkyunkwan University after 13 years. She said, “I graduated at the top of my class. But at Sungkyunkwan, high grades don’t guarantee you can graduate, you have to complete the three-achievement system. One of those achievements is filing a patent, and I actually did that.”
Goo Hye Sun created a retractable hair roller. She emphasized that people will not be able to find a similar product on the market.
In addition, the actress clarified rumors that she paid to be admitted to the Korea Institute of Science and Technology - KAIST.
“All KAIST students receive scholarships, it is a program that they pay for us,” Goo Hye Sun affirmed.
Guests were also surprised when the photo released on the show showed Goo Hye Sun's IQ test result was 167 according to Mensa standards.
Goo Hye Sun was once famous for the movie "Boys Over Flowers" (2009), but for many years now, she has mainly focused on studying and rarely participates in entertainment activities.
Kim Gu Ra was curious about how Goo Hye Sun solved her financial problems, the actress replied: "I paid for my tuition with the money I saved when I was young."
