Unfortunately, Mr. Tung had a neuroma and lost one eye. Because of his lack of confidence in his appearance, he did not have many relationships with people around him. One time, he accidentally called the wrong number of Ms. Trinh (from Ca Mau), and from then on, the two began to fall in love.
A few months later, Mr. Tung and his relatives went from Ho Chi Minh City to Ca Mau - Ms. Trinh's hometown to meet. Although she had heard her boyfriend describe his appearance before, Ms. Trinh was still surprised.
Seeing Tung’s difficult family situation, “both poor and sick”, Ms. Trinh said: “At first, I did not accept Tung because my mother and the neighbors all advised me not to marry him. If I marry Tung, I will suffer in the future.”
After that, Ms. Trinh decided to reject Mr. Tung's feelings, but when Mr. Tung explained, she softened.
Faced with Tung’s pleadings and pitiful circumstances, Trinh agreed to “come home together”. After completing the engagement ceremony, in February 2014, Trinh followed Tung to Ho Chi Minh City to make a living.
Despite the hardships in life, Ms. Trinh still tries her best for her son. Accordingly, her son inherited from Mr. Tung a brain tumor, a nervous system tumor, and a patent foramen ovale.
Ms. Trinh's family had taken their child to many places for treatment but the results were not positive. "When my child was born, I was happy to see that he was normal, but the next day, I was shocked when one of his eyes grew large, cloudy and watery. After that, the test results showed that he had glaucoma and had to be hospitalized for surgery because if left for too long, it would explode, endangering his life. Currently, my child has many tumors on his body, and even if he has surgery, it will not go away, but more will appear," Ms. Trinh burst into tears.
Answering the question of why Trinh and her husband decided to have a baby even though they knew this was a highly hereditary disease, Mr. Tung innocently replied: "I thought my child would be born intact, because I saw that disabled people's children did not have the same genes when they gave birth."
Taking care of her husband and son with serious illnesses alone, Ms. Trinh said she was "exhausted": "I took care of my husband and children single-handedly, and I didn't sleep much and didn't get enough rest for a long time, so I also got many illnesses."
Currently, Mr. Tung and Ms. Trinh sell lottery tickets to make a living. However, the couple also encountered many difficulties because they were deceived and had their lottery tickets stolen by many sophisticated tricks.
Sharing about her current life, Ms. Trinh expressed: “A family with one sick member already finds life difficult, but my family has three sick members so life is even more difficult. Selling lottery tickets a day only makes a profit of 200 to 300 thousand VND, but I have to find ways to do it everywhere, there are times when my family has to eat rice with cold water.”
