According to Allkpop, on April 9, ADOR Company issued an official statement on enhancing legal action to protect NewJeans from increasing online toxic content in the context of ongoing legal disputes with this girl group.
In a statement titled Updated legal action regarding artist rights violations, ADOR emphasized that it has continuously monitored and responded to defamatory content since NewJeans was launched, but has recently strengthened its system and staff to respond to the strong increase in the number and severity of social media attacks.
We are conducting real-time monitoring and collecting evidence on multiple platforms such as DC Inside, Ilgan Best, Nate Pann, FM Korea, Naver, Blind, Gaedrip, TheQoo, Ppomppu, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.
Including posts spreading false information, mocking the appearance or nationality of members, violating privacy and using clear insulting and insulting words," the company wrote.
ADOR confirmed that the posts were particularly serious and repetitive. Posts considered criminals will face official criminal complaints, some of which have been sent to Yongsan Police Station and will continue to be subject to many other complaints.
The company also addressed the growing problem of deepfake crimes, stating that it is working closely with law enforcement on the production and distribution of fabricated videos involving members. A suspect related to such content was arrested and transferred to the prosecution agency.
ADOR warned that they will not participate in any agreements or leniency under any circumstances, and pledged to pursue all possible legal remedies to ensure appropriate punishment for criminals.
Fans are encouraged to report copyright infringements through the artist protection website HYBE, as ADOR acknowledges that fan comments have played an important role in supporting ongoing legal efforts.
The announcement follows a similar move by Bunnies (NewJeans' fandom), who have also taken legal action against defamatory posts.
Meanwhile, NewJeans is entangled in a contract conflict with ADOR. Last November, 5 NewJeans members held a press conference to announce the termination of their contracts with ADOR, citing ADOR's breach of contract obligations. After that, they created a new social media account, announcing a name change to NJZ.
However, ADOR's request for a temporary ban on NewJeans was approved in March. This means that NewJeans cannot sign advertising and independent activities without going through ADOR.
After the ban trial, 5 NewJeans members announced a temporary hiatus.
On April 3, the first trial for the lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract between ADOR and NewJeans took place.
Recently, the group was discovered to have deleted the content posted from their Instagram account NJZ, changing the account name to "mhdhh" - abbreviating the initials in the names of the 5 members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein.
