Gallup Korea - a prestigious market research company in Korea - recently announced the 2024 "Song of the Year" chart.
Gallup's survey, conducted from July to November 2024, asked 5,281 individuals aged 13 and older across South Korea (excluding Jeju Island) to name up to three of their favorite songs in 2024.
The rankings are clearly divided between votes from audiences over and under 40 years old.
According to the survey results, for the group of Koreans under 40 years old (13-39 years old), songs by Kpop groups and solo idols dominate the Top 10.
“APT.” by Rose (Blackpink) and Bruno Mars was the most popular song, with 9.8% of the votes. It was also the only K-pop idol song to make it into the Top 10 voted by audiences in their 50s.
The next positions in the Top 10 songs of the year voted by audiences under 40 years old are “Supernova” by aespa (7.2% of votes), “How Sweet” by NewJeans (5.9%), “HEYA” by IVE (5.3%), “Happy” by DAY6 (4.7%), “Through the Night” by IU (4.3%), “Hype Boy” by NewJeans (4.1%), “Bam Yang Gang” by BIBI (3.7%), “Love Wins All” by IU (2.7%), “Supernatural” by NewJeans (2.5%).
NewJeans is the artist with the most songs in the Top 10 (3 songs). While Rose is the only Kpop group member with a song in the Top 10.
Since Gallup Korea began its survey in 2007, only two songs by female solo artists have been awarded the title of “Song of the Year.” They are IU’s “Meaning Of You” (2014) and Rose’s “APT.” (2024).
Released more than 2 months ago, but the international performance of “APT.” is still very impressive.
Recently, “APT.” has topped the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US charts for the 9th consecutive week. Rose set a record as the Asian artist with the longest Top 1 record on this chart.
