Recently, American magazine Variety voted on the worst songs of 2024 by artists around the world. There were 15 songs named in the list, including “Woman’s World” by Katy Perry, “Think U the Shit (Fart)” by Ice Spice, “Big Foot” by Nicki Minaj, “I Luv It” by Camila Cabello and Playboi Carter…
Notably, the song “New Woman” by Kpop idol Lisa (Blackpink) in collaboration with Spanish singer Rosalia also made the Variety list.
First, the magazine praised Rosalia and Lisa as outstanding singers in their own right, masters of creating immersive worlds to help their music spread. The two singers were praised for their “unique aesthetic in production style.”
But according to Variety, they didn't work out when they teamed up for "New Woman." The magazine called it "a collaboration that sounds great in theory, but falls flat in practice."
Variety notes that Lisa starts off solo with a fairly upbeat beat, but by Rosalia's part it sounds disjointed, suggesting the two artists recorded their parts separately. And things don't improve as Lisa continues to stay in the background.
However, there have been mixed opinions about Variety's list. Audiences believe that some songs do not deserve to be included in the worst of the year list.
As for Lisa, many comments expressed surprise when “New Woman” was not well-reviewed. They said that “New Woman” is the most attractive and stable song among the songs Lisa released this year (along with “Rockstar”, “Moonlit Floor”).
