According to the Korea Times, when they officially debuted with a 7-member lineup in April (Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rami, Rora and Chiquita), Baby Monster quickly gained recognition for their vocal ability - a hallmark of YG Entertainment artists.
They differentiate themselves from other rookie Kpop groups by constantly using handheld microphones during live performances.
The group's recent performance at 2NE1's 15th anniversary concert garnered attention and received much praise.
"It was a great opportunity that allowed us to learn a lot. It was an honor for us and really helped us grow," member Rami said at a press conference on November 1.
Rora added, “When I watched 2NE1 and Blackpink perform, I admired their great stage presence, how they mastered the stage, and their overall professionalism.
We want to be juniors who can continue their legacy and hope to become a group that connects with fans, bringing energy to every stage.”
Aiming to achieve the same success as their predecessors, Baby Monster has just released their first full-length album titled "Drip" with 9 songs, including 2 title tracks "Drip" and "Clik Clak".
In this album, Baby Monster wanted to showcase YG's hip-hop style, while adding their own unique teenage spirit.
"We believe that authentic hip-hop is about telling our story on our own terms, and this album embodies that spirit.
We also tried to add a teenage spirit to it through stage costumes and colorful makeup and diverse hairstyles," Ahyeon shared.
The album's main title track, “Drip,” is an EDM dance track with a unique bass sound. Former YG artist G-Dragon (Big Bang) contributed to the song's composition.
“In the Drip MV, we danced in a freestyle style and enjoyed ourselves, instead of showing off our choreography too strongly. I think it was YG-style hip-hop.
If our previous song “Sheesh” was hardcore hip-hop, this one is a more laid-back and easy-to-listen-to style of hip-hop,” Rora said about the change in Baby Monster’s sound.
Meanwhile, Asa, the group's female rapper, revealed: "G-Dragon sent us a demo that he recorded. We analyzed it and tried our best to capture his style and keep up with his confidence." Asa emphasized that G-Dragon's demo "was perfect in itself."
After releasing the album “Drip”, Baby Monster set a goal to tour around the world, meeting fans around the world.
