The Korean music industry has just recorded a new milestone when it first rose to the third position in the world in music exports, only behind the US and UK. This result reflects the strong growth of K-pop in recent years, with BTS continuing to play a leading role, alongside the breakthrough of many HYBE artists.
According to Luminate's global music market report for the first half of 2026, the influence of non-English music products is increasingly clear. In that trend, K-pop continues to expand its market share in many major markets, especially the US.
BTS is the most prominent name in the report. The fifth studio album "Arirang", released in March, achieved high sales even though only about three months were counted in the statistics. The album topped the US CD and vinyl sales charts, and also entered the group of best-selling albums in the first half of the year.
Meanwhile, the title track "Swim" recorded nearly 987 million online listens worldwide, further affirming BTS's appeal on digital music platforms.
These are the results following BTS's series of achievements after the members completed their military service and reunited. Since the beginning of the year, the 7 Korean boys have continuously made their mark with new albums, promotional activities and tours, showing that their appeal is still maintained after many years of operation.

Not only BTS, many other artists of HYBE group also recorded positive results in the US market. In the ranking of 10 artists with the highest CD sales, HYBE has up to five representatives participating, including BTS, ENHYPEN, TXT, KATSEYE and Cortis.
The fact that many artists from the same management company simultaneously appear in the leading group is considered a positive sign for K-pop. This shows that the market is no longer dependent on a few prominent names but is forming a force of artists with competitiveness in many generations.
Besides the achievements of artists, the report also noted changes in music consumption trends. In the first six months of 2026, CD and cassette sales in the US increased by 7.8% compared to the same period last year. K-pop continues to be one of the genres that contribute significantly to this increase as fans still maintain the habit of collecting physical albums, photobooks and limited editions.
The above figures show that the influence of K-pop is not only limited to streaming platforms but also spreads to the physical album market - a field that was once predicted to decline sharply in the digital music era.
According to experts, the results of Korea not only come from the success of BTS but also reflect the long-term investment process of entertainment companies in artist training, music production and expanding operations to the international market. The strategy of developing many management labels and a fan connection ecosystem also helps businesses like HYBE maintain competitiveness in an increasingly fierce market context.
South Korea's first place in the group of three largest music exporting countries in the world is considered a noteworthy milestone for the country's cultural industry. In which, BTS still plays a leading role, while the development of many young artists shows that K-pop is entering a new growth phase with a wider platform and increasing influence in the global music market.
