Korean media reported that in the trial on August 21, the Procuracy proposed a 3-year prison sentence for actress Hwang Jung Eum, according to the Law on Enhancing the Penalty for Special Economic Crimes.
According to the indictment, in 2022, Hwang Jung Eum illegally used a total of 4.34 billion won (about 82 billion VND) of funded money from Hunminjeongeum Entertainment, a family entertainment company in which she held 100% of shares.
In July 2022, the actress borrowed 800 million won from a famous company. After that, she withdrew 700 million won from her company account, transferred it to her personal account under the name of "advance" and used it to invest in virtual currency.
From July to October 2022, Hwang Jung Eum was discovered to have withdrawn money from the company's fund 13 times, with a total amount of up to 42 billion won to continue investing in virtual currency.
The Family is No. 1 beauty admitted to the allegations in the first trial in May.
After that, through the agency, Hwang Jung Eum said he had returned the entire amount in two installments on May 30 and June 5, along with supporting documents submitted to the court.
In a statement, the actress explained: I established and run the company to support my artistic career. With the hope of developing the company, around 2021, I was encouraged by acquaintances to invest in virtual currency.
Because I believed it could increase the company's capital, I made the wrong investment decision, even though I did not fully understand it.
That amount of money is in the name of the company, but it is income from my own activities, which has led to my careless decision.
The sentencing hearing for Hwang Jung Eum is scheduled to take place in September.
