For the past 10 days, Tung Duong's song "Rebirth" has remained firmly at #1 on YouTube Trending in the music category.
After just one live performance of "Rebirth", videos related to this song quickly attracted millions of views/listens in a short time.
The song also appeared on charts from Spotify to iTunes, and was well received by young audiences.
However, "Rebirth" suddenly became controversial when some viewers thought that the lyrics were about "adultery", or the love between an older man and a young girl.
Some audiences even linked the song's content to adultery, jealousy, or "sugar baby" stories shared on social networks.
The chorus reads "Immersed in your passionate eyes, I feel like I'm in my twenties, you make me love passionately like my first love. A bright star in the darkness, the morning after the rain falls, reborn me from the ashes of love" which makes many listeners think of the man's relationship with the "mistress".
A male audience member shared that he didn't dare listen to "Rebirth" at home for fear of what his wife would think.
The controversy forced musician Tang Duy Tan to directly speak up and affirm: "I wrote this song in a completely innocent state because I don't have a wife yet so I can't... be reincarnated. Tung Duong doesn't have the guts. I hope you let your husbands at home listen to music comfortably."
The collaboration between Tung Duong and his cousin Tang Duy Tan was a resounding success. Tang Duy Tan "pocketed" another million-view song, memorized by Vietnamese audiences.
The male musician's full name is Nguyen Tang Duy Tan, born in 1995 in Quang Tri. Tang Duy Tan is the nephew of the late musician, former Minister of Culture and Information Tran Hoan (his real name is Nguyen Tang Hich) and the cousin of male singer Tung Duong.
