Recently, a video titled Its a bit late, but heres what I want to say was posted on actress Gong Hyo Jins YouTube channel.
In the video, Gong Hyo Jin chatted comfortably with the crew of When the Stars Gossip, recalling her experience filming this work.
When the Stars Gossip aired on tvN, Netflix and ended in February. Despite an investment of 50 billion won, unique space and the participation of famous main actors Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin, the film still recorded a modest rating, only reaching 2%.
In the film, Gong Hyo Jin plays the role of astronaut Eve Kim, who accidentally meets Gong Ryong - an obstetrician and gynecologist played by Lee Min Ho, on a space station in zero-gravity conditions.
Gong Hyo Jin shared: "The entire process of making this film is completely new to me. It was produced first, with some parts having to go through 2 years of post-production. The story itself is quite complicated and I can imagine that the audience cannot easily understand it.
She continues to explain the deeper meaning behind the film script: From the beginning, the author wanted to explore the idea of creating life. The main question is: "Can humans continue their lineage under zero-gravity conditions?". I took on a character to participate in that type of research.
When the production team asked if the space setting was too early for a Korean drama, Gong Hyo Jin replied, "Whenever something is introduced, it always faces mixed opinions.
Whether it will be successful in the future or not depends on the diligence of those who took the first step, even if no one recognized them at that time.

She also mentioned the controversial ending, when the character Eve Kim passed away just one day after giving birth: Every time the main character dies in the ending, people have mixed emotions. Even my mother struggled with that. I think it is a bit heavy for older viewers to fully understand.
Gong Hyo Jin also shared about the difficulties in filming, which required actors to maintain their physical strength to complete the work: Except for one episode, the entire series of films were filmed in space. Shooting zero-gravity scenes takes a lot of time, sometimes more than 2 months for just 1 episode.
I was suspended on a rope for 15 hours a day. I remember shouting, Please let me down because my blood circulation was very poor.
Finally, the actress expressed her gratitude: It was great during the time we filmed for a year. But in the second month, I was worried about whether the drama would be broadcast or not. Finally, we feel grateful that the work has really been broadcast.
