On the evening of January 4, the Korean drama "When the phone rings" aired its final episode (episode 12), with a happy ending for the main couple Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) - Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), and the villains received appropriate punishment.
Episode 12 opens with the news that Baek Sa Eon has disappeared for half a year, after confronting the “real Baek Sa Eon” (Park Jae Yoon) to save Hee Joo.
The “real Baek Sa Eon” was shot dead by police on the spot. His biological mother, Shim Kyu Jin, who killed her father-in-law Baek Jang Ho and plotted to kidnap Hee Joo, was sentenced to life in prison, but she asked for the death penalty.
Baek Sa Eon donated all of the assets inherited from the Baek family to charity, resigned as spokesperson at the presidential office, and “disappeared” for unknown reasons.
During this time, even though there was no news about Sa Eon, Hong Hee Joo began to learn about her husband. Through Park Do Jae (Sa Eon's former assistant), assistant Kang and her biological father, Hee Joo learned that Sa Eon had done many things to be a good husband and make her happy.
Hee Joo's sister advises her to forget everything and says Baek Sa Eon won't be coming back. But Hee Joo doesn't give up waiting for her husband.
One evening, Hee Joo unexpectedly received a call from an unknown number. She picked up the phone, but there was no response from the other end. Hee Joo found out that the area code of the phone number was in Argan - a war zone. She then received a notification that someone had used her name to donate to a sign language school in Argan.
Hee Joo guessed that the person was Sa Eon, so she went to Sa Eon's best friend, who was a war correspondent with him in Argan, to find out.
Despite the danger, Hee Joo traveled alone to Argan to find her husband. Following the locals' instructions, Hee Joo learned of a place where she could watch the sunset, something Baek Sa Eon had enjoyed while working in Argan.
But on her way there, Hee Joo was discovered by armed forces. They tied her hands, blindfolded her and put her in a car with other hostages. At this moment, Baek Sa Eon suddenly appeared to save her.
When the two reunite, Sa Eon is angry because he told Hee Joo to wait no matter what, but she went to a dangerous place on her own.
Sa Eon also revealed the reason he left, because he felt so guilty when he learned that his biological father (Mr. Baek Jang Ho) was the one who caused the accident years ago, causing Hee Joo's younger brother to lose his life, and she had to pretend to be mute for 20 years.
But Hee Joo clearly showed that she didn't want to wait any longer, didn't want the two of them to continue wasting their happy time. She took the initiative to kiss Sa Eon, and the couple officially got together after many months apart.
The "hot" scene of the main couple caused a storm on social networks right after the movie ended.
After everything, Sa Eon and Hee Joo got married again and moved to a new place. The male lead changed his name to Baek Yoo Yeon, “Yoo Yeon” means unique love.
Hee Joo's parents also gave their blessings to her and Yoo Yeon.
Supporting couple Ji Sang Woo and Yoo Ri announced that they are getting married.
After serving his prison term, Park Do Jae continued to work as an assistant to Baek Yoo Yeon. But now, Baek Yoo Yeon is no longer a spokesperson but has become a negotiator working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The female lead continues her work as a sign language interpreter at the television station.
