Korean drama “When the phone rings” will air its final episode on the evening of January 4.
Previously, episode 11 revealed many shocking developments related to the people who caused the lives of the male and female leads Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) - Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin) to fall into tragedy.
At the end of episode 11, when Baek Sa Eon confronted the “real Baek Sa Eon” (Park Jae Yoon), he said something that shocked Sa Eon. He turned to look at Hee Joo with pain and guilt in his eyes. Gunshots rang out, but it was unknown who was shot.
The film then cuts to Hee Joo sitting alone in a dark room. She calls Baek Sa Eon repeatedly but gets no response.
According to the call history, the date is December, so Hee Joo has not been able to contact Sa Eon for about 5-6 months (since the press conference to publicly reveal Hee Joo's identity and search for the missing person took place in June).
Episode 11 ends when Hee Joo receives a call from an unknown number. The other end of the line doesn't say anything, Hee Joo asks: "Is that you?".
On online communities, viewers wondered what Baek Sa Eon heard at that time.
There are speculative comments, "The real Baek Sa Eon" revealed that his grandfather Baek Jang Ho - Baek Sa Eon's biological father - wanted to bring him back to the Baek family, so he staged an accident that killed his younger brother Hee Joo, forcing Hee Joo to pretend to be mute for decades. Perhaps Sa Eon felt guilty and couldn't face Hee Joo so he left.
In the new trailer, Hee Joo cries and misses her husband the whole time he is gone. The line “Baek Sa Eon is dead” could be referring to the death of the “real Baek Sa Eon” after the gunshot at the end of episode 11.
“When the Phone Rings” has adapted many details from the original novel. In the original plot, Baek Sa Eon holds a press conference to reveal his identity and the Baek family scandals.
Baek Sa Eon discovered that his assistant Park had betrayed him, so he used a trick to fake his own death after the bombing at the press conference, waiting for an opportunity to return. Before carrying out his plan, he left his wife a savings account so that she could live comfortably and not have to suffer injustice from her in-laws.
In the movie, Baek Sa Eon held a press conference to reveal his identity because Hee Joo was kidnapped for the third time. He did not expose the Baek family and waited for the last opportunity. However, in order to save Hee Joo, he provided evidence that Shim Kyu Jin - the biological mother of the "real Baek Sa Eon" - killed her father-in-law, Mr. Baek Jang Ho.
The detail of Baek Sa Eon disappearing is still used, but this time, perhaps it's because Sa Eon feels too guilty because he is the indirect cause of Hee Joo's life falling into tragedy.
Audiences still predict the film will have a happy ending for the main couple.
In the original story, Baek Sa Eon later changed his name to Baek Kyo Eon - a name given by his wife - and the two lived happily after the incident.
