On November 13, the American media company Vanity Fair released the 2024 edition of the “Hollywood Issue”. This is a special edition published annually, honoring outstanding artists of the year.
Notably, this year's list includes Blackpink's Lisa for her role in the movie "The White Lotus".
Besides being accused of "taking advantage of her boyfriend" to appear in this publication, Lisa's shares about establishing her own company as well as her solo career after leaving YG Entertainment also attracted attention.
The idol admitted that starting her own company was a "big risk" but in return she has a team focused on herself.
"It was a big risk but I just wanted to have a lineup that was really focused on me and focused on my solo projects. And when I had that support I was like, 'Oh I want to do something,'" Lisa said.
Lisa's statement angered fans who believed that YG Entertainment had not supported Lisa's solo career in the past. Many fans were also grateful that she was able to do what she wanted with her own company.
While still working with the Blackpink members under YG Entertainment, Lisa was repeatedly accused of being treated unfairly compared to the other members. From outfits, makeup to solo projects... fans all thought that Lisa was being oppressed.
Before Lisa, Blackpink's Rose also answered an interview about how she is currently comfortable doing what she likes.
On the show "Z100", when asked: "How did you think about the things you wanted to do on stage", Blackpink's Rose shared that she never had 12 songs of her own and only had 2 previously released songs when she was an artist under YG Entertainment.
"Honestly, I've never had 12 songs of my own before, only two. I think I've done something I've never done before. A few weeks ago, I had an acoustic session, I sang all the acoustic songs and I was like obsessed. It made me so excited and so ready to perform right away. At the moment, I feel like it's the right thing to do," Rose shared.
After leaving YG Entertainment, the members have been busy with solo activities. While Lisa continues to release songs, Jennie impresses with "Mantra", Rose causes a global fever with the hit "APT.", Jisoo focuses on her acting career. The Blackpink members also shared that they will spend 1 year doing what they like and then the group will reunite in 2025.
