On September 30, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) issued a decision to send the film "Red Rain" by director Dang Thai Huyen to participate in the preliminary round of the 98th International Feature Film Awards at the Oscars organized by the American Academy of Cinema Science and Arts.
The National Council for selecting films to participate in the preliminary round of the Oscar for the 2025-2026 term includes prestigious managers, artists, directors, producers, and screenwriters, chaired by Director of the Department of Cinema Dang Tran Cuong.
Sharing with Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Dang Tran Cuong said that after the discussion and voting process, "Red Rain" has received high trust, becoming the official representative of Vietnam competing in this prestigious award.
According to the leader of the Department of Cinema, a Vietnamese work submitted to the Oscar is not only an opportunity to promote the image of the country's cinema to international friends, but also affirms the maturity and increasingly solid position of Vietnamese cinema in the integration process. This is also an opportunity to learn, exchange and expand cooperation with major film industries in the world.
According to the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the People's Army Cinema will coordinate with the Department of Cinema to complete the dossier and send films with English subtitles to the Oscar organizing committee before the prescribed deadline.
Before Red Rain, many Vietnamese works were submitted to the preliminary round of the Oscar for International Feature Film category in previous years, including: Scent of Green Parsley, Ha Dong Silk Coat, I See Golden Flowers on Green Grass, Hai Phuong.
"Red Rain" has just officially left theaters since September 29, becoming the film with the highest revenue in the history of Vietnamese box office. The film is produced by the People's Army Cinema in collaboration with HKFilm and Galaxy Studio, directed by Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen. The film is inspired by the 81-day and night battle in 1972 at the ancient citadel of Quang Tri - an important area for Vietnam to win at the Paris Agreement negotiation table. In particular, the film honors human values, depicting the immortal sacrifice but still puts people at the center - people who are both simple, everyday, and extraordinary in historical moments.
