According to data from the Korea Film Council (KOFIC) and the KOBIS system, "Colony" surpassed the 2 million views mark after only 5 days of screening.
This achievement helps the film become the fastest Korean work released in 2026 to reach the above milestone, surpassing many projects such as "The King's Warden" (Under the Shadow), "Salmokji: Whispering Waters" (Ma da Korea: Swallowing People) or "Project Hail Mary" (Escape the Apocalypse).
Previously, "Colony" also set a record for the fastest movie to reach 1 million viewers this year. The work even reached 2 million views faster than one day compared to "My daughter is a zombie" - the best-selling movie of 2025.
Under the direction of director Yeon Sang Ho - the person behind "Train to Busan" and "Peninsula", "Colony" exploits the theme of zombies in the context of a building being blocked due to a mysterious epidemic. Here, survivors face infected creatures that are evolving in an unpredictable way.
The work brings together a cast including Jun Ji Hyun, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Bin, Kim Shin Rok, Koo Kyo Hwan and Go Soo.
According to Korean media, the difference of "Colony" lies in the way Yeon Sang Ho expands the zombie world in the direction of science fiction and herd psychology instead of just focusing on the familiar survival horror element. The creatures in the film not only act instinctively but are also connected as a collective living system.
In addition to the visuals and tense atmosphere, the acting of the cast also received much attention. In which, the character Kwon Se Jung of Jun Ji Hyun plays a central role in the journey to understand the structure and evolution of infected organisms. The actress is assessed to create attraction in the psychological and survival segments.
Meanwhile, Koo Kyo Hwan is considered a surprising factor thanks to the role of Seo Young Cheol - a character with a special connection to the zombie system in the film. Ji Chang Wook also impressed with the role of Choi Hyun Seok - who constantly rushes into dangerous situations to protect his sister from disaster.
Although some opinions suggest that the ending of the film is still controversial about the handling of worldviews and character lines, "Colony" is still considered one of the most notable zombie (zombie) Korean projects recently.
After its release in Korea, the film is expected to be released to Vietnamese audiences from June 12 under the name "Boys and Souls".
