On November 20, 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its construction and development (1975-2025) - a glorious journey, marking the continuous efforts of the city's teachers, managers, people and students.
Since the early days of reconstruction after liberation, the Ho Chi Minh City Education sector has risen strongly, demonstrating the spirit of overcoming difficulties and pioneering, becoming a bright spot in the education system nationwide.
Right after 1975, the Ho Chi Minh City Education sector faced many difficulties, from lack of facilities, a thin teaching staff, and an inconsistent training program. But with the spirit of innovation and determination of previous generations of leaders and teachers, the city has gradually stabilized, building a synchronous general education, vocational education and higher education system. Movements to compete in teaching well, learning well, and encouraging creativity in teaching are spread, creating a foundation for sustainable development.
Over the past 50 years, the city's education has achieved many outstanding achievements, promoting illiteracy and cultural development; completing the popularization of education, developing education from kindergarten to high school; improving the quality of the teaching staff.
The city continues to affirm its leading position in integrating technology into education, implementing STEM education programs on a large scale; strongly transforming the model of comprehensive development of learners' abilities and qualities; building "Smart School, Smart Classroom", "Digital School", "Happy School"; popularizing and improving English proficiency, meeting the requirements of the knowledge economy and international integration...
In addition to achievements, Ho Chi Minh City's education also faces many challenges. The increase in the mechanical population has caused many areas to fall into a state of lack of schools and classes, especially in newly developed areas. That difficulty is on the shoulders of more than 100,000 teachers and managers of the city.
In the journey ahead, there will be many things for the city's education sector to do, especially in the context of artificial intelligence and digital transformation becoming a trend, Ho Chi Minh City education once again faces great opportunities and challenges.
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that the city is holding different potentials, facing new opportunities but also facing many difficulties and challenges, the requirements for the education sector are huge.
"The city not only needs an education to convey knowledge, arouse potential, foster aspirations, and practice life skills and global citizen skills for future generations; but the first important thing in education is to educate on ethics, cultivate people starting from personality, then education on knowledge and skills", Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized.
"HCMC education is behind but comes first", that is the affirmation of Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the HCMC Education sector. This is further proof that the Ho Chi Minh City Education sector has been on the right track, not only leading in economy but also pioneering in education.
"Over the past 50 years, Ho Chi Minh City education has come first and ended, but that does not mean we stop and are enthusiastic about the "uyet la cucumber" but need to look further and wider, not only comparing with provinces and cities across the country but also achieving a higher goal than Asia and the world. Ho Chi Minh City Education needs to continue to affirm its role and position, promote the results and achievements in recent years," said Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong.
