Year 2021: Admission
In the 2021-2022 school year, Ho Chi Minh City did not organize the 10th grade entrance exam, instead applying the form of admission consideration.
The reason stems from the serious outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, the city had to extend social distance for a long time, and could not organize centralized exams.
Admission is carried out based on the academic results of students at the secondary school level, combined with registration aspirations to public high schools.
2022: Re-enrollment in mid-June
After the epidemic was controlled, Ho Chi Minh City reorganized the 10th grade entrance exam in the 2022-2023 school year.
Exam time: June 11 and 12. 2022.
Literature, Math, Foreign Language.
Specialized/integrated schools take additional subjects accordingly (150 minutes).
2023-2025: Returning to the frame at the beginning of June
The 10th grade entrance exam from 2023-2025 is organized earlier than the previous year.
Exam time: June 6 and 7. June 2023.

Year 2026: Expected disruption in exam time
According to the orientation of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the 10th grade entrance exam in 2026 is organized in the form of admission consideration in some areas and the entrance exam is mainly with 3 compulsory subjects including: Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language. Candidates taking the exam for specialized classes or integrating exams take additional subjects accordingly.
A noteworthy new point is the exam organization time. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is considering two options:
Organized early at the end of May 2026, before the high school graduation exam.
Or postpone it to the end of June 2026, after the high school graduation exam.
According to the Department of Education and Training, the reason is that the 2026 high school graduation exam is expected to take early (June 11-12), there is a risk of overlap in personnel, facilities and invigilation - grading work if the 10th grade exam schedule is still maintained as every year.
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is continuing to collect opinions and complete the plan to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for decision.
Previously, in October 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the structure and sample exam questions for Mathematics, Literature and English subjects, helping students have early preparation orientation for the 2026 exam.
