Candidates register to take the exam in one of the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean (candidates are allowed to register to take a foreign language other than the foreign language they are studying at the lower secondary school).
The Foreign Language exam is in the form of objective multiple-choice, the exam time is 60 minutes; there are many exam codes in one exam room, ensuring the principle: 2 adjacent candidates do not match the exam code; candidates take the exam on multiple-choice answer sheets; the results of the candidate's exam on the multiple-choice answer sheet are graded using computer software.
The Departments of Education and Training of Cao Bang and Dong Thap, Lang Son provinces also announced the third exam subject in the 10th grade high school entrance exam for the 2026 - 2027 school year is English.
The Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) of Can Tho City announced the 3rd exam subject for the entrance exam to 10th grade high schools and specialized high schools (for common subjects) in the 2026 - 2027 school year in the city is Foreign Language. Candidates can choose English or French to take the exam.
According to the official announcement of Thanh Hoa province, the third exam subject of the 10th grade entrance exam for Ethnic Minority Boarding High Schools and Public High Schools in the 2026 - 2027 school year in Thanh Hoa province is English. Two fixed subjects are Math and Literature.

In Vinh Long, candidates taking the 10th grade specialized high school entrance exam will take exams in Literature, Mathematics, English and specialized subjects; admission is considered for non-specialized public high schools and ethnic minority boarding schools.
