In recent years, the number of candidates using high school transcripts or aptitude test scores,... to register for early admission to schools has been on the rise.
For the 2024 enrollment period, from March onwards, some universities have begun to announce early admission scores based on the high school transcript results of 3 to 5 semesters.
Huy Lan - a 12th grade student in Go Vap district - said he plans to apply early with his high school transcript to the Graphic Design major at Van Lang University.
"I have a talent for drawing, and since 10th grade I have planned to study Graphic Design. Therefore, if the admission plan does not change, when the school announces that it will accept applications, I will apply. Knowing the results of passing or failing in advance will help me feel comfortable and not feel pressured. Because if I pass, I only need to graduate to be eligible for admission," Huy Lan said.
On October 31, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) held a conference to summarize the organization of the high school graduation exam for the period 2020-2024 and prepare for the high school graduation exam from 2025. Here, the Department of Quality Management, MOET proposed that universities not announce early admission results before May 31 - that is, early admission results will only be announced after the end of the program and school year plan.
This information makes Nguyen Ngoc Lan Chi - a 12th grade student in Phu Nhuan district - feel worried.
Lan Chi said she planned to use her high school transcript and the Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test to apply for early admission to Marketing at universities.
According to Lan Chi, being admitted early will help female students feel more comfortable, because they no longer have to worry about failing the university entrance exam. At the same time, Lan Chi believes that not only her but many other students also have similar thoughts, because even though the admission results are announced early, it does not affect their exam preparation.
"I have followed up and found that only a few schools, not too many, usually announce admission scores before May 31. Most of them are private schools, while other schools are usually later.
Therefore, I think, for those who have clearly oriented their major and school, being admitted early is very beneficial, they will feel less pressured, they will not have to wait anxiously, just need to graduate and that's it. As for those who wish to be admitted to top schools and hot majors, they will have to study and practice more to be able to be admitted. Usually these schools often announce the scores late," Lan Chi said.
Speaking with Lao Dong, MSc. Nguyen Thi Xuan Dung - Director of the Media Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - said that the early admission results can only be considered a preliminary step before the official results are available.
"If candidates have early admission results based on their transcripts or ability assessments, they must continue studying and not neglect to take the high school graduation exam. Only when they pass this exam will the early admission results be valid," said Ms. Dung.
