According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), the ministry will announce the university admission regulations for 2025 in February. In particular, compared to the previously announced draft, there will be some adjustments.
The Ministry of Education and Training will eliminate early admission, instead of limiting the quota to 20% as in the previous draft.
Ms. Thuy said that even if admitted early, candidates still have to re-enter their wishes in the general admission system and candidates can only win 1 wish. Early admission like in previous years has caused waste of time and finance for schools as well as candidates.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Phuoc - Vice Principal of Truong Chinh High School (District 12, Ho Chi Minh City) - said that no early admission will only affect students with weak abilities, while students with average academic performance or higher will not be affected. "This is a good way to do things, ensuring more fairness," said Mr. Phuoc.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thien Phuc - Vice Principal of the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City also agreed that no early admission will ensure more fairness in admission.
He explained: "When students are admitted early, they will easily have the mentality of "leaving", not focusing on studying or reviewing anymore. Moreover, schools often push up early admission quotas to hope to recruit enough students. At this time, the number of indicators for other methods such as considering high school graduation exam scores is only small, so the benchmark score for this method is high. This causes unfairness between those who participate in early admission and those who participate in the general admission round".
According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh - Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - eliminating early admission will not affect the school's admission work.
"In fact, in recent years, schools that have conducted early admission have also had to wait for the final results from the ministry. Therefore, eliminating early admission will not greatly affect the school," said Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh.
However, he said that eliminating early admission will greatly affect students' psychology. Because as before, if students were admitted early to some schools, when entering the following exams, candidates will feel more secure. Therefore, if early admission is eliminated, a number of students may feel pressured.
