The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has just sent a document to the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) reporting on the development of a plan to arrange higher education, vocational education (GDNN) and continuing education (GDTX) institutions in Ho Chi Minh City in the period 2026 - 2030.
According to the arrangement plan, at the university level, the city will maintain 2 schools, and at the same time reorganize Saigon University on the basis of merging Ba Ria - Vung Tau Pedagogical College. In the vocational education block, Ho Chi Minh City will maintain 6 colleges, including:
Vietnam - Singapore College; Vietnam - Korea Binh Duong College; Ba Ria - Vung Tau College of Technology; Thu Duc College of Technology; Ho Chi Minh City College of Architecture - Construction; Semi-public College of Technology and Business Administration.
Because these units meet legal regulations on conditions to ensure training quality (land area, school facilities, training equipment, teaching staff); have prestige with society in training quality; are oriented to build high-quality colleges, regional centers for vocational practice and are leading for vocational education institutions in the city.
For colleges and intermediate schools, 13 colleges and 17 intermediate schools will be arranged: Reorganize Binh Duong Medical College on the basis of merging Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Medical College into Binh Duong Medical College into Ho Chi Minh City Medical College.
Reorganize Ho Chi Minh City Vocational College on the basis of merging Hung Vuong Technical - Technology Vocational Secondary School and Quang Trung Vocational Secondary School into Ho Chi Minh City Vocational College.
Reorganize Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics on the basis of merging Binh Duong Economics Secondary School into Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics.
Reorganize Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology on the basis of merging Tran Dai Nghia Intermediate School and District 12 College of Economics and Technology into Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology into Tran Dai Nghia College.
Reorganize Nam Sai Gon University of Science and Technology on the basis of merging Nhan Dao Vocational Secondary School and Binh Thanh Vocational Secondary School into Nam Sai Gon University of Science and Technology.
Reorganize Nguyen Truong To Technical College on the basis of merging Ho Chi Minh City Bach Nghe Intermediate School and Cu Chi Vocational Intermediate School into Nguyen Truong To Technical College into Nguyen Truong To College.
Reorganize Thu Duc College of Economics and Technology on the basis of merging Dong Sai Gon Vocational Secondary School into Thu Duc College of Economics and Technology into Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech College.
Reorganize Ho Chi Minh City Ly Tu Trong College on the basis of merging Ho Chi Minh City Information - Communications Secondary School into Ho Chi Minh City Ly Tu Trong College.
Reorganize the College of Transport on the basis of merging the Vocational Education - Driver Testing Center of Binh Duong and the Vocational School of Transport (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) into the College of Transport into the Ho Chi Minh City College of Transport.
Reorganize Thu Thiem College - Ho Chi Minh City on the basis of merging Nguyen Huu Canh Economic - Technical Secondary School and Ton Duc Thang Technical - Professional Secondary School into Thu Thiem College - Ho Chi Minh City into Nguyen Huu Canh College.
Reorganize Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts on the basis of merging Binh Duong Fine Arts - Culture Secondary School into Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts.
Merging Ho Chi Minh City Intermediate School of Agricultural Technology, Intermediate School of Agriculture and Forestry, and High-Tech Agriculture Vocational Education Center into Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Agriculture Intermediate School directly under the Department of Education and Training.
Not arranging 2 schools managed by businesses, including: Saigontourist Tourism - Hotel Intermediate School; Suleco Intermediate School.
For continuing education centers and vocational education - continuing education centers, Ho Chi Minh City arranges 41 existing units into 37 vocational secondary schools (equivalent to high school level).
This arrangement reduces 4 units, including 3 centers directly under the Department of Education and Training, and 1 unit is the Youth Volunteer Continuing Education Center (Xuan Thoi An commune).
In which, merging Le Quy Don Continuing Education Center with District 1 Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center into Le Quy Don Vocational Secondary School.
Merging Chu Van An Continuing Education Center, Chinese Continuing Education Center with District 5 Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center into Chu Van An Vocational Secondary School.
Notably, the GDTX function of the Youth Volunteer GDTX Center (Xuan Thoi Son commune) will be transferred to the Vocational Education - GDTX Center of Hoc Mon district to establish Xuan Thoi Son Vocational Secondary School.
The Youth Volunteer Continuing Education Center will then be reorganized to implement vocational training and job creation for people after drug detoxification.
The remaining 34 centers are expected to be converted into vocational secondary schools in their original state to meet the needs of lifelong learning and a new management model. This conversion will be implemented after the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Education Law takes effect.
