A representative of the Department of Education and Training of District 1 said that teacher T.P.H., homeroom teacher of class 4/3, Chuong Duong Primary School, District 1, was disciplined after more than 15 days of being temporarily suspended from work for asking parents for financial support to buy a personal laptop.
There are currently four forms of disciplinary action against civil servants, in ascending order: Reprimand, Warning, Demotion, and Forced resignation. Ms. H. will be disciplined with a warning, stopped teaching, and transferred to academic work, from October 21 until the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
At the same time, the Department of Education and Training of District 1 will assign personnel to monitor and grasp information at schools to promptly remove obstacles and difficulties as well as handle arising issues resolutely, without covering up.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, Ms. T.P.H., homeroom teacher of class 4/3 at Chuong Duong Primary School, requested laptop support, but did not receive consensus from all parents.
Ms. H. asked for 5-6 million VND in sponsorship to buy the laptop, each parent contributed 200,000-500,000 VND. But then, Ms. H. announced that she would buy a laptop for 11 million VND, paid 5 million VND herself, and said that the laptop was hers, which made the parents angry.
During the meeting between parents, the school and Ms. T.P.H. on September 24, 27/38 parents of students in class 4/3 attended. At this meeting, Ms. T.P.H. said that she had caused parents to misunderstand her meaning through messages in the class group.
"I was wrong to encourage parents to equip themselves with laptops, and wrong to keep the class fund," Ms. H.'s words were recorded in the meeting minutes.
The female teacher also apologized to the school leaders and parents of the 4/3 class students and promised to correct any mistakes she made.
Although the teacher admitted her mistake and promised to correct it, many parents attending the meeting expressed their disagreement with the teacher continuing to teach the class or wanted to transfer their children to another class.
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, schools and teachers are not allowed to solicit sponsorship to pay salaries or other directly related expenses to teachers and staff. The operating expenses of the parent-teacher association are managed and used by the board and are only for the activities of parents.
