Teacher asks for laptop support, says he wants to "find an excuse to refuse"

Chân Phúc |

HCMC - On September 30, the teacher involved in the incident of requesting laptop support at Chuong Duong Primary School (District 1) had an interview with a number of reporters.

Ms. T.P.H said that she lost her computer in the 2022-2023 school year. This year, class 4/3 is equipped with a TV, so Ms. H wants a new computer to prepare lessons and connect to the TV to teach students.

"At first, I thought asking for support to buy a laptop was normal, in line with the policy of socializing education. When asking for support, it was also based on the voluntary spirit of parents. Only when the principal informed and instructed me not to accept support did I create a vote. Some parents did not agree so I used it as an excuse to refuse to accept it," said Ms. H.

Regarding the reason why she did not immediately refuse but had to create a poll to get parents' opinions, Ms. H explained: "The parents agreed to support the money to buy the laptop, so I had no reason to not accept. Therefore, I created a poll to get opinions to have a reason to refuse, because if someone complained to the school, there would be people who disagreed."

Explaining the content of the message: "Which child's parent?" when someone voted no, Ms. H said that the class had 38 students but in the group there were 47 people.

“I just want to ask who this parent is so I can find out. Many people think I am angry, but I am not angry with the parents. I still love and teach the children normally,” said Ms. H.

Regarding the content of the message about not preparing an outline after returning the laptop, Ms. H apologized for the misleading message, and said that the following classes would continue as usual.

Regarding the information about selling food to students, Ms. H admitted that she did, but said: "Because my house is far away, I brought food to class. The students said they were hungry, so I sold it to them. Students who bought food elsewhere were still allowed to sit in class and eat normally."

Ms. H added that she has 30 years of experience working in education and 18 years of teaching at Chuong Duong Primary School.

Regarding the above incident, on the morning of September 30, Chuong Duong Primary School decided to temporarily suspend Ms. T.P.H - homeroom teacher of class 4/3, and head of grade 4.

The suspension period is 15 days.

The incident occurred in class 4/3 of Chuong Duong Primary School (District 1) when the homeroom teacher T.P.H asked for support with a laptop from the parents' representative board one day before the parent-teacher meeting. The parent-teacher meeting was on September 14.

On the day of the meeting, the parents' representative committee announced and the parents of class 4/3 paid according to each parent's ability. The total amount collected that day was 14.5 million VND. The parents then transferred this amount directly to Ms. H.

The parents said that Ms. H asked for support with a laptop worth about 4 to 5 million VND, a document printer and 300,000 VND per month to support the nanny. Then the parents commented that the printer had been purchased in grade 3, so they should contact the old homeroom teacher to ask for it back for the class to use.

Then, Ms. H sent a message to the class Zalo group with the content: "After the first meeting of the school year, 29 parents have paid. Currently, I have 14,500,000 VND. I gave the nanny 300,000 VND. I paid 500,000 VND to the scholarship fund. I have 13,700,000 VND. I bought a laptop, I will inform the parents of the remaining amount. And I would like to ask for this laptop too, parents."

On the same day, September 14, Ms. H took pictures of 2 laptops and quoted a price of 5.5 million VND for one gray laptop and 11 million VND for one black laptop, saying she would take the black laptop for 11 million VND, the parents would support her with 6 million VND, and she would pay 5 million VND.

On September 16, Ms. H continued to text with the content: "On Saturday, I asked my parents to support me with a laptop of about 5-6 million. And I bought a laptop for 11 million, so I will add 5 million. And this laptop is mine. Do you agree?"

Then this teacher created a poll for parents. During the poll, there was a parent who disagreed, so Ms. H texted back to ask which child the parent was. Then she locked the poll.

According to the parents, the class Zalo group has 47 members, of which 26 parents agree (both parents vote for 1 student), 3 parents disagree, and 18 parents have no opinion.

Ms. H then sent a message to the group: "If there are parents who do not agree, I will not accept it. I bought it myself and used it myself. I also bought the printer myself. I do not accept anything from you. I sincerely thank you."

On September 17, Ms. H continued to text with the following content: "Last night and this morning, I received many messages and phone calls from parents begging me to accept the class's support. I would like to make clear my position that I do not accept it, parents. And I also do not have to prepare review outlines for the children. I agree on the review lesson and parents review on their own. Thank you, parents. That's it, parents."

A few days later, Ms. H transferred the above amount to the parents after deducting some expenses such as 220,000 VND for the power outlet, 160,000 VND for the wall clock, 30,000 VND for the slogan, and 50,000 VND for the scholarship association.

According to the parents, the following days when the children came home from school, the teacher let them learn too much through TV. For most subjects, she let them watch YouTube, even some solutions on TV, and let them copy them down. Many children couldn't copy them down in time and had to drop out. For math, the teacher let them copy the questions on TV and books and do them themselves...
