On November 22, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision on merging Hue Medical College into the University of Medicine and Pharmacy under Decision 2346/QD-TTg dated October 23, 2025.
According to the decision, the merger is carried out on the principle of accepting a portion with arrangement, ensuring inheritance, stability and efficiency; in accordance with legal regulations and ensuring the rights of civil servants and learners. The school continues to provide college-level training according to social needs and the health system of Hue City until new regulations are issued by the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Health.
The goal of the merger is to develop a model of a National-standard School - Institute, towards international standards in education and health; meeting the National Strategy on care, improving people's health and planning the health network to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The event marks an important turning point in the process of streamlining the educational institution system according to the Government's policy, opening up opportunities to build high-quality medical and pharmaceutical training facilities, meeting the development requirements of the industry and the country in the new period.
With nearly 70 years of construction and development, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University is one of the leading training and treatment centers in the country. Since its establishment in 1957, the school has continuously expanded its scale, affirming its core role in the Vietnamese medical university education system.
To date, the school has trained nearly 35,000 doctors, pharmacists, bachelors and more than 13,500 postgraduate medical staff for the Central - Central Highlands region, the whole country and Laos. The teaching staff is growing, including many professors, associate professors, and leading experts, holding important positions in national professional associations. The school currently trains 29 undergraduate majors and nearly 110 postgraduate majors, meeting the needs of high-quality medical human resources.
In addition to training, the school is a center for medical technical research and transfer, with many topics of practical value, including the cluster of works that won the Ho Chi Minh Prize in 2021 for reproductive health care. Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital has a scale of 700 beds, modern equipment, receives more than half a million patients each year, is an important practice facility for students and a place to deploy advanced medical techniques.
