Previously, at the 2025 Higher Education Conference, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) requested training institutions to promptly announce the admission methods for 2026 in October 2025.
The Ministry said that it will announce the revised Admissions Regulations to supplement and thoroughly overcome the problem of unfairness and untrustworthyness in admission methods and criteria; ensuring compliance with the 2018 General Education Program.
Nguyen Thao Vy, a 12th grade student (Binh Dong ward, Ho Chi Minh City), believes that when learning about the admission information of schools early, it will be more convenient to orient the choice of major, choose a school and have a clearer direction for exam preparation.
"If we know how to apply in advance, we will be more proactive, for example focusing on the graduation exam or the competency assessment exam organized by schools," Thao Vy said.
Similarly, Nguyen Thanh Linh, a 12th grade student, said that in recent years, each admission period has always been adjusted to some extent, so early announcement will be very important, helping students to avoid panic.
"Like this year, I see that there is information that I am considering removing my academic records. If it is real, I hope there will be information soon so that we can prepare," Thanh Linh expressed.
On October 7, Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, said that in 2026, in addition to the direct admission method according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the school plans to only use one method: comprehensive admission.
This method includes the following components: considering high school graduation exam scores, competency assessment test scores, high school academic results and other outstanding achievements.
Among these elements, Dr. Nhan said that high school graduation exam scores and competency assessment will account for a larger weight. The detailed rate will be calculated and announced by the school later.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, the comprehensive admission method aims for more comprehensive and fair assessment in admission. However, he said that this option is only expected, and there will be adjustments depending on the official admission regulations of the Ministry.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the comprehensive admission method has been used by the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City in several admissions in recent years.
Also at the 2025 Higher Education Conference, the Ministry of Education and Training issued survey forms to collect opinions from schools on whether to continue to review transcripts, as well as limit the number of registration wishes of candidates, instead of allowing them to be unlimited as in previous years.
