This is the second time Thanh received a university admission notice.
The first time Thanh passed the university entrance exam was in 2016. At that time, the senior student chose the People's Security Academy following his family's direction and after 4 years of study, Thanh graduated and worked in the police force.
During his time as a police officer, Thanh realized that literature was his passion.
Every evening after work, he always spends time sharing his knowledge of literature and history through his personal TikTok channel. He also opens free Literature classes and many of his students have passed the entrance exams to top schools and are valedictorians in the provinces. Thanh's passion for teaching has been nurtured.
The year 2023 marked a major turning point in Thanh's life when he decided to give up his job with a stable income to pursue his passion for literature.
The first thing Thanh did was to review for the entrance exam to the teacher training college. He applied to the Literature Pedagogy major at 4 schools: Hanoi Pedagogical University, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2, Thai Nguyen University of Education and Vinh University of Education.
Starting from scratch, Thanh said he was lucky because he still remembered a lot of his high school knowledge. However, he had difficulty getting used to the multiple choice tests in the remaining subjects because he had previously taken the university entrance exam in essay format.
Taking the university entrance exam at the age of 26, knowledge was not a barrier that made Thanh back down, but he had to face opposition from his family and those around him.
"At first, my family strongly opposed this decision. I secretly wrote a letter to leave the industry. People around me said I was depressed or had mental problems.
After a while, when I saw that I was really serious about this decision and tried hard to study for the exam, my parents started to support me. After the results came out, everyone changed their perspective" - Thanh recounted.
With 29.45 (including priority points) in the C00 group (Literature, History, Geography), Thanh passed the Literature Pedagogy exam at Hanoi National University of Education. This was the second time he received a university admission notice and became a new student.
The day he received the admission notice, Thanh burst into happiness.
"In this comeback, I also became a different person, daring to present, boldly standing in front of a crowd..." - he said.
In addition to being admitted to Hanoi National University of Education, what makes Thanh happy and proud is that his personal story inspires and motivates many people, especially young people, to pursue their passion.
"When I started to make my story public, I received hundreds of messages from people. The content was often not about expressing admiration or asking for tips, but rather people sharing their stories, expressing regret for not being able to pursue their passion or determination to live with it after knowing my story" - Thanh expressed.
Although he gave up a stable job that many people dream of to start his studies again, Thanh always feels precious and grateful for the time he spent studying and working in the police force.
"I have been trained, both physically and mentally, and have discipline" - Thanh confided.
In the future, Thanh will focus on studying at Hanoi Pedagogical University and continue to nurture his passion for literature.
