On September 8, information from the People's Committee of Lao Cai province said that the province will deploy the construction of 9 boarding schools according to the Politburo's policy on investing in the construction of schools in 248 border communes nationwide.
Accordingly, the localities invested include: Lao Cai ward, Y Ty commune, A Mu Sung commune, Trinh Tuong commune, Bat Xat commune, Pha Long commune, Muong Khuong commune, Ban Lau commune and Si Ma Cai commune.
Of these, 4 pilot projects must be completed before August 30, 2026, including: Muong Khuong Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Y Ty Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Pha Long Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities and A Mu Sung Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities.
The People's Committee of Lao Cai province is directing functional agencies and local authorities to urgently complete preparations, especially in arranging land funds and site clearance for 4 pilot projects.
According to the model architectural plan completed by the Ministry of Construction, each school will have a scale of 1,000 students or more, with a campus area of 5 - 10 hectares.
The system of the project is designed synchronously and modernly, including functional blocks: learning, administration, living, sports and boarding. The design also takes into account the flexibility and adaptability to the specific terrain and climate conditions of each border area.
This is part of the Government's major program to ensure fairness in education and improve the quality of human resources in border areas.
In the period of 2025 - 2026, the goal is to complete 100 boarding and semi-boarding schools in border communes, then expand to all 248 schools as planned.
The capital source for project implementation is mobilized from the central, local and socialized budgets.
The construction of a boarding school system in border communes not only helps ethnic minority students have better learning conditions, but also contributes to maintaining stable security, developing the socio-economic development of border areas, creating new momentum for the sustainable development of Lao Cai province.
