On September 23, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nam - Chairman of Nghia Hanh Commune People's Committee, Nghe An province, said that teacher Hoang Thi Hien, a teacher at Phu Son Kindergarten, is still being treated at the hospital after an accident while rescuing a student from a truck.
According to Mr. Nam, Ms. Hien's wound has stabilized, and her health has progressed well. It is expected that she will be discharged from the hospital in the near future.
Regarding the settlement of benefits for people enjoying policies like war invalids for Ms. Hien, Mr. Nam said that after she is discharged from the hospital, the locality will have a written report to competent authorities, requesting an assessment of the body injury rate.
Based on the results of the assessment, the locality will prepare a dossier requesting competent authorities to consider and resolve policies for Ms. Hien according to regulations" - Mr. Nam said.
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Chau - Head of the Department of People with Meritorious Services, Department of Home Affairs of Nghe An province said that so far, the unit has not received a dossier requesting settlement of benefits for people enjoying policies like war invalids for teacher Hoang Thi Hien.
When the locality submits the dossier, we will study and consider it. If conditions are met, the unit will advise competent authorities to resolve policies for Ms. Hien according to regulations" - Mr. Chau said.
Previously, at about 2 pm on August 28, at Tan Lam school point, Phu Son Kindergarten, Nghia Hanh commune, a 2-year-old boy suddenly ran out onto the road when a truck was approaching.
Discovering that the student was in danger, teacher Hoang Thi Hien (born in 1994) immediately ran after, hugged and put the child in a safe position. The child escaped, but teacher Hien was run over both legs by the truck wheels, leading to serious injuries.
After being treated at medical facilities in Nghe An, Ms. Hien was transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital (Hanoi) for treatment from the morning of August 29.
Due to severe injuries, her right leg was crushed, with complex injuries. Although doctors made efforts to treat and preserve her limb, her right leg continued to become necrotic and had to have her calf amputated.
On September 16, President To Lam signed Decision No. 1569/QD-CTN awarding the Medal of Courage to teacher Hoang Thi Hien for her courageous action of saving people and protecting the lives of others in dangerous situations.
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, lawyer Tran Hau Dinh - Hanoi Bar Association said that according to Article 23 of the Ordinance on Preferential Treatment for People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution in 2020, people who are not in the military or police force, who are injured with a body injury rate of 21% or more in cases of particularly brave rescue and meeting the prescribed legal conditions, may be considered for recognition as people enjoying policies like war invalids.
For the case of teacher Hoang Thi Hien, the consideration and settlement of policies and regimes will be carried out based on dossiers, results of physical injury assessment and conclusions of competent authorities.
