HCMC - The structure of the Literature exam for grade 10 in 2026 was announced in the direction of diversifying materials and requiring students to express their views, not taking formal lessons.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City has announced the structure of the exam and the reference exam for 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language of the public 10th grade entrance exam in 2026.

For the Literature exam, the Department said that the source of citation will use materials other than textbooks, which are luan documents or information documents, the total length of the materials in the exam is not more than 1,300 words.

The 1-2-word section (about 200 words) has one of two requirements: Eat a 1-2-word section to record your feelings about a poem or a poem. Writing a doan to analyze the content of the theme, the unique features of the art form of the work and its aesthetic effects.

Writing a thesis requires meeting one of two requirements: Writing an luan on an issue in life, clearly presenting the problem and the opinion (agreeing or opposing) of the writer on that issue; presenting convincing arguments and evidence.

According to teacher Vo Kim Bao, Literature teacher at Nguyen Du Secondary School (Ben Thanh Ward), the structure of the 10th grade entrance exam this year is basically stable, helping teachers and students feel secure in the teaching and review process.

However, the way of asking questions is expected to be clearer to limit confusion, while the scope of language materials is expanded to reduce the situation of rote learning and encourage students to think independently.

Mr. Bao believes that in the context of implementing the 2018 General Education Program, learning from sample materials or machine learning is no longer suitable.

"Students need to practice reading comprehension skills, analyze problems and present personal views in a concise way. The change in the direction of setting questions is to develop real capacity instead of learning how to cope," said Mr. Bao.

According to Mr. Bao, announcing the exam structure early also helps teachers develop a teaching and review plan suitable for each group of students.

The school has a basis to discuss, agree on the implementation and promptly respond to the contents that need to be adjusted. For students, grasping the direction of the exam from the beginning of the year will help them proactively consolidate their knowledge, avoiding negative psychology at the final stage.

Mr. Bao advised students to read more documents in different genres to form analytical reflections and natural expressions.

" reading a lot, understanding the genre's characteristics correctly, grasping the test method and being confident when presenting will determine the result, not having to study some available sample test cases. Only when expressing oneself through your own thoughts can the article be convincing," said teacher Bao.
