After completing the three compulsory subjects of the 10th grade public school entrance exam, on the afternoon of June 2nd, candidates registering for specialized and integrated classes continued to take the exam for specialized or integrated subjects according to their registered aspirations.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GDĐT), in the 2026-2027 school year, the total number of candidates registered to take the exam for 4 specialized high schools directly under the Department is 11,110 and 1,794 students registered for integrated classes in 10 high schools.
In the specialized system, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted has the highest number of registrations with 5,738 aspirations, enrolling 805 students. The corresponding competition ratio is about 1/7, which means an average of 7 candidates competing for a place.
Ranked next is Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted with 2,521 registered candidates, enrolling 525 students, the competition ratio is about 1/4.8.
Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted recorded 1,526 registered candidates, enrolling 455 students, the competition ratio is about 1/3.3.
Meanwhile, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted has 1,325 registered candidates, recruiting 525 students, corresponding to a competition ratio of about 1/2.5.
In the 2026-2027 school year, all 4 specialized high schools in Ho Chi Minh City enroll 10th grade students nationwide.
According to regulations, if not admitted to specialized classes or admitted but not confirmed for enrollment, candidates can still continue to be considered for admission according to 3 aspirations for 10th grade of regular public high schools that have been registered before.
The admission score for specialized classes is calculated according to the formula:
Admission score = Literature + Math + Foreign Language + (specialized subject score × 2).
The specialized and integrated subject exam has a duration of 150 minutes.
The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City in the 2026-2027 school year takes place in 2 days, June 1 and 2, with more than 151,000 candidates taking the exam. Public high schools in the city recruit about 118,500 students into 10th grade, equivalent to about 78% of candidates taking the exam have a chance of passing.
Candidates take exams in three subjects: Literature, Mathematics and English. Those who register for specialized or integrated classes will take additional specialized or integrated subjects accordingly.
This year, the exam is organized at 242 exam sites, including 226 regular exam sites and 16 specialized exam sites, with a total of 6,443 exam rooms. The city's education sector mobilized more than 17,700 teachers, staff and officials to participate in exam supervision and service.
