Buying gold for long-term investment
According to traditional beliefs, lucky money at the beginning of the year has the meaning of luck, wishing for a prosperous year.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Anh (Thanh Hoa) said that instead of depositing savings as every year, this year she plans to collect lucky money from her two children to buy gold to accumulate.
The amount is not too large, but if accumulated for many years, it will become a significant amount. Gold holds its price well, I think saving it for my children later is also reasonable" - she said.

Ms. Le Minh Thuy (Hanoi), a parent whose children are 6 and 3 years old this year, said that she has accumulated 3 taels of gold for her children from lucky money from previous years.
Before, I used to deposit savings, but in the past 3 years, I have switched to buying gold for my children. Gold prices have continuously increased, so this is a way for me to keep money for my children later instead of depositing savings.
I don't consider this an investment but a way to maintain asset value over time. This year, the lucky money for my 2 children is not enough to buy 1 chi of gold rings, but I will calculate, maybe my parents will add more to be enough to buy" - Ms. Thuy added.
Children should not be allowed to spend freely
New Year lucky money envelopes always make children excited. Instead of letting children make spontaneous decisions, teachers advise parents to talk to their children and discuss how to use this amount of money reasonably. Accompanying each other will help children better understand how to use money, without causing a feeling of constraint or imposition.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bay - a teacher at Tay Tuu A Primary School (Hanoi) shared that in class, teachers have educated young children on how to receive and use lucky money during Tet.
Parents should not closely manage their children's money, but should develop a plan to use this money. For example, buy school supplies, or use it to help people in difficult circumstances" - Ms. Bay advised parents.
Ms. Nguyen Hong Ngoc - homeroom teacher of Bilingual Block 4, Phenikaa Inter-level School, said that besides teaching children to save money and spend reasonably, parents can also teach their children to share.
We want our children to learn the lesson of "the healthy leaf protects the torn leaf". Many friends have voluntarily deducted a portion of lucky money to help those less fortunate" - Ms. Ngoc added.
When children know how to spend a portion of lucky money to help those in difficult circumstances, they not only learn how to use money properly, but also nurture compassion and responsibility to the community.
New Year lucky money is not only meaningful for luck but also a practical lesson about the value of money. When properly oriented, each red envelope will be an opportunity for children to practice life skills, know how to cherish, share, and become more mature.
