Starting salary of teachers is expected to increase from 1.7

The Vietnamese government expects to increase the base salary by about 8% from July 1, 2026. Regarding the salary reform roadmap, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra said that the current base salary is 2.34 million VND/month, if increased by 8% it will be about 2.53 million VND/month. This adjustment is also associated with the increase in pensions, allowances for people with meritorious services and social security policies.
Because teachers' salaries are calculated according to the formula of salary coefficient × base salary, when the base salary increases, teachers' income also increases correspondingly. For example, preschool teachers with a starting coefficient of 2.1 will increase from about 4.91 million VND to 5.31 million VND/month; grade III general education teachers with a coefficient of 2.34 will increase from about 5.47 million VND to 5.91 million VND/month (excluding allowances). The total income of teachers is expected to increase by about 500,000-1.5 million VND/month depending on the coefficient and allowance.
In addition to increasing the base salary, according to Resolution 71-NQ/TW, the preferential allowance for teachers will also be adjusted to increase in the roadmap from 2026. In the period 2026-2030, the allowance for general education teachers will be gradually increased, towards a minimum level of 70%, teachers in difficult areas 100%, and school staff about 30%, in order to improve income and create motivation for the teaching staff. Hanoi removes admission area, students urgently change tactics to choose schools
Hanoi City People's Committee has issued a public high school 10th grade enrollment plan for the 2026-2027 school year, with the exam taking place on May 30-31 and candidates taking three subjects: Math, Literature, Foreign Language; students taking specialized schools such as Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School, Nguyen Hue High School and Son Tay High School will take additional specialized subjects on June 1. A noteworthy new point is that students can register a maximum of 3 aspirations for public high schools regardless of the enrollment area, and the score difference for consideration of aspirations 2 and 3 is reduced to 0.5 and 1 points respectively.

Before this change, some students in the central area of Hanoi have adjusted their aspirations to increase their chances of admission. Many students choose to keep aspiration 1 at schools near their home but consider aspirations 2 and 3 at other schools to avoid competitive pressure, because leaving the admission area may cause candidates to focus more on top schools and fluctuate benchmark scores.
Meanwhile, many students in suburban areas still prioritize schools near their homes for convenient travel and do not intend to transfer their aspirations to the central area. According to Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam, Chairman of the Council of Dinh Tien Hoang High School, removing the admission area gives students more choices but also makes the benchmark score difficult to predict, so students need to calculate their aspirations reasonably and prepare well for the exam.
