On the morning of March 12, in Hanoi, the National Election Council held a press conference on the preparation for the election day of National Assembly deputies (NA deputies) of the 16th term and People's Council deputies (HĐND) at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
At the meeting, Major General Nguyen Quoc Hung - Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for National Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs informed about the handling of false information about the election in cyberspace.
According to Major General Nguyen Quoc Hung, to ensure security and safety for the election of National Assembly Deputies of the 16th term and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, functional agencies have proactively developed plans and scenarios to handle misinformation related to elections, especially misinformation in cyberspace.
The National Election Council has closely coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission and functional agencies to strengthen monitoring, early detection and timely handling of false information, untrue information and acts of defaming candidates.
To ensure safety, Major General Nguyen Quoc Hung emphasized that solutions need to be implemented synchronously and focused on implementation.
In which, strengthen cyberspace surveillance, promptly detect fake news sources, false news, and distorted news related to elections.
Proactively provide official, transparent information and promptly orient public opinion.
Strictly handle acts of taking advantage of social networks to spread false information, affecting the election according to the provisions of law.
This leader added that reality shows that each election often involves some tricks that take advantage of democracy and human rights issues or distort information about candidates in order to cause suspicion, division and reduce voters' trust. Therefore, functional agencies have proactively identified and developed early and remote prevention plans.
The National Election Council also recommends that press agencies, organizations and voters access information from official sources, do not share or spread unverified information; and promptly report to functional agencies when detecting signs of misinformation.
