The number of high school graduation exam candidates in 2026 exceeds 1.22 million
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, as of 5 pm on May 5 (the time of completion of registration for the high school graduation exam), the total number of registered candidates is 1,223,776, the highest in many years.

Previously, there were about 800,000 to more than 1.15 million candidates each year.
Among more than 1.2 million candidates registered for this year's exam, 12th grade candidates are 1.159. 932 students (accounting for 94.78%), independent candidates are 63. 844 (accounting for 5.22%). Regarding the case of 46 cases with suspected food poisoning symptoms at Dang Thuy Tram Elementary School (Tan Thuan ward) that occurred at the end of last month, on May 5, some schools are proactively stopping semi-boarding meals, waiting for conclusions from functional agencies.

Schools stopping semi-boarding meals include: Dinh Bo Linh Primary School, Tan Hung Primary School, Tran Quoc Tuan Secondary School and Dang Thuy Tram Primary School. All 4 schools are provided with meals by one unit.

Ministry of Education and Training proposes forms of implementing free textbooks for students
The Ministry of Justice has just publicly disclosed the Appraisal Dossier for the draft Decree regulating the exemption of general education textbooks and the roadmap for tuition fee exemption, and the curriculum for national defense and security education subjects at higher education and vocational education institutions.

In the draft, the Ministry of Education and Training - the drafting agency proposes a policy of free textbooks for students according to the roadmap as follows:
1. 2029 - 2030 school year: Free textbooks for all general education students nationwide;
2. For localities with budget balancing capacity (or socialization), it is encouraged to implement the policy of free textbooks earlier than prescribed in Clause 1 of this Article; prioritize allocating resources to deploy in advance for border areas, islands, ethnic minority and mountainous areas, areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, ensuring compliance with practical conditions and local budget capacity;
3. The time to provide free ethnic minority language textbooks is implemented according to the Government's own regulations on teaching and learning the language and writing of ethnic minorities. See more...
