Reducing pressure - increasing quality
According to many teachers, the promulgation of Circular 05 is a necessary and timely adjustment step, showing the listening and sharing of the Ministry of Education and Training with teachers across the country. The remarkable point of the circular is the reduction of lessons. In particular, the homeroom teacher in high schools is reduced by 4 periods/week. The leader of the professional team or the subject leader is reduced by 3 periods/week.
Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huyen - a teacher at Nghi Kim Primary School (Nghe An) expressed her excitement. According to the female teacher, the new regulation has created ideal working conditions for teachers, creating a premise for improving the quality of teaching. In particular, reducing the teaching time quota helps reduce pressure and increase the quality of classroom hours.
"In the initial implementation, there should be confusion in adjusting the timetable to comply with the new regulations. However, the school's board of directors is very proactive, organizing professional meetings, collecting opinions from teachers, and at the same time supporting in calculating teaching hours, ensuring that all teachers enjoy benefits in accordance with the circular" Ms. Huyen shared.
Working in the education sector, Ms. Tran Thi Tho - Hoang Van Thu High School (Hanoi) agreed with Circular 05/2025/TT-BGDDT. Ms. Tho believes that reducing the volume and teaching hours helps teachers have more time to prepare their lectures more carefully, while increasing the quality of teaching time.
"Circular 05 has made very specific and reasonable adjustments in the number of lessons in the week, the number of weekly working weeks as well as the number of part -time jobs of the teacher. This is really a clear reduction in both time and workload. I see the new adjustments of the circular is suitable to the career characteristics and the actual workload of the current teacher," Tho said.
Teachers no longer "shoulder" many concurrent tasks
Circular No. 05/2025/TT-BGDDT stipulates that each teacher cannot concurrently hold more than 2 tasks (including concurrently holding professional work, Party and mass organizations, other organizations and some other job positions).
Sharing about this issue, education expert Dr. Vu Thu Huong - former lecturer at Hanoi National University of Education - said that this is truly a positive change. For many years, teachers have been teaching, taking care of documents, being homeroom teachers, Teamwork, and extracurricular activities, sometimes so overloaded that there is no time to prepare lessons. Reducing teaching hours for part-time workers is completely reasonable, helping teachers have more time to invest in lectures, monitor students more closely and improve the quality of education.
"When the workload is more reasonable, teachers can innovate methods and adjust content to suit each student group. Only by teaching like that can we be truly effective" - Dr. Vu Thu Huong said. At the same time, education experts also expressed concern that reducing teaching hours could lead to a situation where some teachers do not take advantage of their time off to develop. This person proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training should have specific requirements and conditions along with reducing teaching hours, to ensure that teachers still perform well and fully their teaching and learning tasks.
