Candidates worry about losing opportunities
The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has just announced the draft Regulation on enrollment at the university level for training majors and enrollment at the preschool education college level with many adjustments. The change that has attracted much attention is that the Ministry plans to limit 10 aspirations for each admission round of a candidate instead of not limiting it as before.
Explaining this proposal, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Higher Education Department, Ministry of Education and Training, said that according to statistics of the Ministry in the past time, the number of candidates admitted in nguyện vọng 1 accounted for 35.1%; candidates admitted in nguyện vọng under 10 accounted for 98.5%. The number of candidates considered for admission in supplementary rounds accounted for more than 1.0%.

Thus, the number of candidates admitted and enrolled in nguyện vọng greater than 10 is extremely low" - Mr. Thao said and said that the proposal of 10 nguyện vọng for each round of admission of a candidate aims to contribute to saving costs for candidates, shortening the admission time and at the same time requiring a more serious understanding of training majors, especially the determination of majors suitable to their abilities and strengths.
Before the Ministry's proposal, Nguyen Bao Minh - a 12A5 student at Luong Son High School (Phu Tho) was a little worried because the adjustment was made in the context of students sprinting to prepare for the high school graduation exam and university admission.
The male student plans to spend more time studying the majors as well as the benchmark scores of previous years.
Because the number is limited, each choice must be carefully considered to avoid wasting opportunities. I will focus on prioritizing schools that are about talent and art that I love, which are: University of Industrial Fine Arts, University of Architecture and University of Fine Arts" - Bao Minh said.
Pham Huyen Dieu - a 12B6 student - Gia Vien A High School (Ninh Binh) plans to register 15 admission aspirations this year. Therefore, the information that the Ministry plans to limit each candidate to register a maximum of 10 aspirations makes her and her family worried about reducing their chances of being admitted to university.
When the number of aspirations is tightened, the pressure to choose the right ones increases even more, there is no longer a chance for "experimental" decisions like in previous years" - the female student expressed.
Proposal to increase 10 - 15 admission aspirations/candidate

Huyen Dieu expressed her wish that the Ministry of Education and Training limits to about 15-20 aspirations, avoiding sudden changes that cause difficulties for students.
This number is just enough for us to have more backup plans, and also forces us to have a serious strategy, not to register rampantly. In fact, reducing registration fees for my family is also of certain significance. However, I think finance is not the most important issue at this time. What I am more concerned about is how to have enough information to choose the right major, the right school" - the female student said.
This is also a proposal sent by the University of Commerce to the Ministry of Education and Training when participating in contributing opinions to the draft.
Master Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy Head of the Communication and Enrollment Department of Thuong Mai University, said that the school's feedback system recorded many students' opinions that the number of aspirations registered for admission is 10 aspirations/student/period, which is not suitable for reality.
Mr. Trung said that although the rate of candidates not passing in the aspirations after the 10th is not high, the absolute number still reaches thousands, so limiting 10 admission aspirations causes anxiety and unsafety for students.
Besides, students will have to consider carefully, which may lead to not being admitted to the desired major even if the exam score is high enough or exceeds the benchmark score. This may lead to students choosing "safe" aspirations instead of majors they really like because they are afraid of failing.
This issue has been considered by us, proposed to the Ministry to consider adjusting to increase the number of aspirations to about 15 - 20. If students can register their aspirations more freely, there will be more choices" - Mr. Trung said.
