Bui Quang Huy, a 12th grade student in District 1, said that he has registered to take the first round of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam on March 30. Quang Huy plans to use the exam results to apply for admission to the Accounting major of the University of Economics and Law and Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics.
"I learned that these two schools both use the results of their ability assessment for admission, so I registered for the exam, and if I take both the ability assessment exam and high school graduation exam at the same time, my admission possibility will be higher," Quang Huy shared.
According to the male student, to prepare for this exam, he has recently attended 3 extra classes online/week and 3 extra classes of Math, Physics, Chemistry at the center with 6 sessions/week.
Nguyen Hoang Quan, a 9th grade student in District 1, said that he has a relatively busy schedule, because in addition to the 2-day schedule at school from Monday to Friday, Hoang Quan also attends extra classes.
In which, Quan attends an additional Math class at the center (2 sessions/week), studying with a teacher at home with 3 subjects: Math, Literature and English, each subject 2 sessions/week.
Mr. Cao Duc Khoa - Principal of Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1) said that at this time, the students are entering the mid-term exam phase 2, then the review plan for grade 9 students will be arranged.
"In fact, since the beginning of the school year, for the subjects that will be tested for grade 10, the school's teachers have been teaching and consolidating knowledge. In particular, the school focuses on providing practical problems for students to get acquainted with," said Mr. Khoa.
Meanwhile, at a high school in Thu Duc City, the school principal said that this year, according to regulations, it is allowed to teach review for grade 12 students but there is no fee, so the school has not yet had a detailed review plan. However, the principal affirmed that "there will be reviews for students".
"The school may open some review classes for students with limited knowledge in the spirit of voluntary registration of students and parents. The salary of review teachers will be calculated based on the working days of the quarter in the year," he said.
Recently, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has issued a document directing the review of the high school graduation exam for grade 12 students. In particular, it is noted that high schools only organize reviews and training for students who need to review for entrance exams and review for high school performance; do not organize widespread reviews, not for the right subjects, not effective, causing waste.
During the teaching and testing process, teachers need to focus on helping students understand and apply knowledge to do well in the high school exam.
