On the morning of May 24, more than 3,500 candidates officially entered the 10th grade entrance exam of the School for the Gifted - Ho Chi Minh City National University for the 2025-2026 school year.
The exam takes place over 2 days, May 24-25, at 3 exam locations including: Petroleum High School - District 5 campus; Saigon Practical High School (District 5) and Petroleum High School (Thu Duc campus).
According to Lao Dong, at the entrance exam site of the Propaganda and Power School - District 5 facility, since 6 am, many students have been present here.
The contestants all seemed happy and excited, mixed with a bit of excitement before entering the competition room.
Phan Thanh Vinh, a contestant from Binh Duong province, said that he has registered to take the entrance exam for the Sinh Sinh specialized class in this year's entrance exam.
I was a bit worried, but I believe I could do well in the exam to be admitted and study here in high school, Vinh said.
As for Minh Anh, another contestant, she said: "I don't feel pressured. I take the exam with the main purpose of experience, if I am admitted, I will study, otherwise I will not study at a regular school".
Waiting for her child in front of the exam score, Ms. Nguyen Khanh Hoa (District 6) was quite nervous and worried. "My child has been in the contest but since last night I haven't been able to sleep, I'm worried about losing sleep, so I woke him up at nearly 5am, then took him to have breakfast and then came here," Ms. Hoa shared.
This year, the School for the Gifted has 3,509 candidates registered to take the exam, a decrease compared to the previous year (December 3,843). The average admission rate this year is 1/5.9.
Of which, the number of candidates registered for the English, Math, and Literature classes is the highest. English subjects were chosen by 1,272 candidates, followed by Math with more than 1,018 students, Literature with 782 candidates taking the exam.
In the exam, each candidate must take 4 subjects, including 3 non-professional subjects (Math, Literature, English) and 1 specialized subject from the following subjects: Math, Informatics, Chemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Literature and English.
Each candidate can register for a maximum of 2 subjects in the optional subject exam. In case of registration for 2 subjects, candidates need to ensure that they choose 1 subject in each group (group 1: Math - Literature; group 2: English - Physics - Chemistry - Biology - Informatics).
The admission score is the total score of 4 exams, in which the specialist subject has a coefficient of two, with no exam below 2 points.
According to the plan, today the contestants will take the non-professional subjects, Literature and English (morning), Math ( Afternoon). Tomorrow, there will be a specialized exam.
This year, Nang High School admitted 595 grade 10 students to 2 campuses. Of which, District 5 schools recruited 245 students; Thu Duc campus (in Ho Chi Minh City National University urban area) recruited 350 students.
