Department of Psychology - Education and historical milestones, courage in hardship
The year 1965 is considered a historic milestone, the year of the birth of the Department of Psychology - Education, Hanoi National University of Education, and at the same time the cradle of formation and career nurturing for many generations of students.
However, the predecessor of the Faculty was formed in 1956, the Psychology - Education Group, at the same time as the establishment of Hanoi National University of Education. The first group leader was Mr. Nguyen Huu Tao, and the Deputy Group leader was Mr. Nguyen Lan, two exemplary teachers who laid the foundation for Vietnamese psychology and education. With nearly 30 staff, the Psychology - Education Group has taught pedagogical skills to students throughout the school, trained general education teachers, and trained teaching staff.
In 1965, the Department of Psychology - Education was officially established, with Professor Nguyen Lan as Chairman of the Department. This period coincides with the period when the whole country's resistance war against the US to save the country was full of hardship. In the context of evacuation and hundreds of shortages in locations such as Pho Yen (Thai Nguyen), Cat Duong, Phu Cu (Hung Yen), Thuong Cat, Phu Xuyen (Hanoi), Khoa's teachers and students still persistently teach, study and research. It is in that difficult time that the values that make up the soul of the Faculty - teacherly love, colleaguely love, bravery, intelligence and noble pedagogical personality - have been forged.
Pioneering in Postgraduate Training
After the country's reunification in 1975, the Department of Psychology - Education has pioneered the mission of training human resources for the cause of national construction.
In 1973, the Faculty began training a full-time Bachelor's program for 4 years. In 1977, the Faculty officially opened the Postgraduate Program, becoming the first unit in the country to train a PhD in Psychology and Education.
Currently, the Department of Psychology - Education is organizing training at a variety of levels: 2 Bachelor's programs: Educational psychology and School psychology. 5 Master's programs: Educational psychology, School psychology, Education, Education and Community Development, Measurement and Evaluation in education. 2 Doctoral programs: Psychology and Theory and Education History.
Every year, the Faculty enrolls about 200250 bachelor's students, more than 100 graduate students and nearly 30 doctoral students. With the current scale and quality of training, the Department of Psychology - Education has always held a leading position in the field of Psychology and Education, contributing positively to the overall development of the education sector.
Imprints in scientific research
The Department of Psychology - Education is proud to be a place where prestigious teachers such as Mr. Nguyen Huu Tao, Mr. Nguyen Lan, Mr. Nguyen Duc Minh, Mr. Pham Coc, Mr. Vu Van Thai have actively compiled and translated the first documents on Psychology and Education, laying a solid foundation for the science of Psychology and Education in the country.
Over the past 60 years, the Faculty has chaired many research topics from the ministerial to the State level, topics of international cooperation, and coordinated with many ministries, branches and international organizations in training and research. The Faculty has expanded cooperation with many prestigious universities in the world, organized many international scientific seminars, contributing to enhancing academic prestige. Many textbooks and reference books compiled by the Department have become official teaching materials in general schools and higher education institutions.

Many teachers have taken on important responsibilities in the education and state management sector, typically the People's Teacher, Professor, and Institute Director Pham Minh Hac - former member of the Party Central Committee, former Minister of Education.
Outstanding scientists of the Faculty have worked at the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences and become leading experts in the field, such as Professor, Dr. Ho Ngoc Dai; Associate Professor. Dr. Tran Trong Thuy.
Currently, the Faculty is extremely honored and proud that Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son, who was a Vice Principal and is currently holding the position of Principal of Hanoi National University of Education, is the former Head of the Faculty of Psychology - Education.
Generations of students and trainees of the Faculty have also matured and held important positions across the country, including Principals, Vice Principals of universities, leaders of departments, branches, sectors, and enterprises. In particular, there are former students who have become members of the Party Central Committee, leaders of central ministries, departments, branches, Secretaries and Chairmen of provinces, affirming the important contributions of the Department of Psychology - Education to the development of the country.
To continue promoting tradition, today's generation of the Department of Psychology - Education understands that gratitude is to continue developing the profession, continuously improving the quality of training, research, linking knowledge with practice, integrating internationally, and enhancing the transfer of psychology and education applications in the digital age.
