In Hanoi, there are 4 specialized high schools under universities, including: High School for Foreign Languages (Hanoi National University, University of Foreign Languages), High School for Natural Sciences (Hanoi National University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University), High School for Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University of Social Sciences and Humanities), High School for the Gifted of National University of Education (Hanoi National University of Education).
Along with 4 specialized schools under universities, Hanoi also has 4 specialized high schools under the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (also known as specialized schools), including: Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted and Son Tay High School for the Gifted.
To take the high school entrance exam to 4 schools under the Department, candidates must have full year's learning and training results (academic performance and conduct) of junior high school classes with a grade of Quite or higher; and must go through 2 rounds: Pre-admission and entrance exam. The exam schedule is as follows:

4 specialized schools under universities have also announced the 10th grade enrollment plan for 2025 with many new points.
This year, the University of Education High School for the Gifted added English to the compulsory exam for the entrance exam.
Thus, candidates will have to take the general Math, General Literature, General English and specialized subjects.
Notably, the school has 3 ways to calculate admission scores, instead of applying the same formula as usual.
For the group of exams specializing in Math, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, the admission score is the total score of General Math and coefficient 2 specialist subjects. Literature and English scores are only conditional scores.
Similarly, for the Literature specialization exam group, the admission score is the total score for the general literature subject and the Literature specialization factor 2.
For the English-specialized exam group, the admission score is the general English subject and the professional English subject with a coefficient of 2.
To be eligible for admission, candidates must achieve a minimum of 3.5/10 points in all subjects.

This year, the Foreign Language High School requires 100% of candidates to take the conditional English exam.
For the major, candidates will take multiple-choice tests combined with an essay in 90 minutes.
The time for the 10th grade entrance exam of the High School for the Gifted this year will be limited to one day, June 1.
Candidates will take 4 exams: Literature; Math; English; Foreign Language major.
The 2025 10th grade entrance exam of the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences will have an additional English subject. In previous years, candidates only took two general subjects: Literature and Math. In which Literature only calculates the admission score, not the admission score.
This year, English is not included in the admission score. Candidates need to achieve a minimum of 4 points in each subject.
In addition, the school has eliminated direct admission of candidates who won first prize in provincial-level excellent students. The school's only admission method is entrance exams.
The admission score is the total score for the Math exam (round 1) multiplied by a coefficient of 1 and a professional exam score of a coefficient of 2. The school does not add priority or incentive points in enrollment.

After a year of experimenting with using only one exam for admission, this year, the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities changed its approach, raising the number of entrance exams to 4.
Candidates must take 3 general subjects: Math, Literature, English and Business. In which, Math and English only calculate the conditional scores, not the admission scores.
To be eligible for admission, candidates need to achieve a minimum of 4 points/general subject and 6 points/specialized subject.

The admission score is the total score for the General Literature exam multiplied by a coefficient of 1 and the specialized subject (Literature, History, Geography) multiplied by a coefficient of 2. The total score is rounded to two decimals. The school does not add priority points and incentive points in enrollment.
