Some opinions on the viewpoint of continuing to maintain the high school graduation exam

The Ministry of Education and Training expressed its view of continuing to maintain the high school graduation exam. Some parents and students expressed their agreement, saying that the exam still plays an important role.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has just stated its views on the necessity of the high school graduation exam. The MOET said that in recent years, the high school graduation exam has been organized and gradually adjusted to suit reality. Continuing to innovate and improve a national standardized exam is not only a requirement according to policies and regulations, but also a requirement from practice to move towards a fair, quality and honest education.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, Resolution 29-NQ/TW and the Law on Education both identify the innovation of the exam in the direction of reducing pressure but still ensuring reliability, correctly assessing students' abilities, as a basis for vocational and university education enrollment.

The innovation of the high school graduation exam from 2015, especially from 2020 to now, has promoted many advantages such as creating a common assessment level nationwide, contributing to ensuring fairness, reducing pressure and social costs, and providing data to serve education quality assessment and university admissions.

This information is receiving great attention from parents and students.

As a parent whose child just completed the 2026 high school graduation exam, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Huong (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi) expressed her agreement with the viewpoint of the Ministry of Education and Training.

According to Ms. Huong, the high school graduation exam is not only a milestone to assess academic results after 12 years of study but also creates motivation for students to maintain a serious learning consciousness until the end of the school year.

If the exam is abolished, many students may be subjective in the final stage, while this is the time to summarize knowledge and practice skills. Maintaining the exam also helps universities have more basis for reference when enrolling students" - Ms. Huong said.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Dao Van Kha (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi), whose child is preparing to enter 12th grade, believes that the high school graduation exam is still necessary in the context that each university applies many different admission methods.

According to Mr. Kha, the common exam helps ensure a certain level of assessment among students nationwide, while creating more admission opportunities for students who do not have the conditions to participate in many competency assessment or thinking assessment exams.

I hope the exam will continue to be organized in a streamlined direction, reducing pressure but still ensuring the correct assessment of students' abilities. This will be both fair and create peace of mind for parents" - Mr. Kha shared.

From a student's perspective, Dao Nhat Long, preparing to enter 12th grade at Co Loa High School (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi), expressed his agreement with continuing to maintain the high school graduation exam.

According to Long, maintaining the exam helps students have clear goals to strive for in the final year of school. Currently, he has started building a review plan from the summer, consolidating knowledge of subjects and preparing the mindset for 12th grade - the stage considered the most important before entering the exam.

If there is no more high school graduation exam, I think many students will lack the motivation to try. Although the exam brings no small amount of pressure, this is also an opportunity for us to look back at the 12-year learning process and show our abilities.

I am trying to review early to get the best results in the upcoming exam. I hope the exam questions will continue to stick to the program and accurately assess students' abilities" - Nhat Long shared.
