Vinh Long - After the merger, Vinh Long has more than 1,300 educational institutions but lacks teachers and limited facilities, creating great pressure for the new school year.

Ms. La Thi Thuy - Director of the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Vinh Long province - said that after the merger, the whole province currently has 1,316 educational institutions from kindergarten to general education and continuing education, including 1,264 public schools and 52 non-public schools.

From July 1, 2025, the Department of Education and Training has coordinated with the People's Committees of communes and wards to review and count the demand for teachers for the 2025-2026 school year. As a result, the whole industry is lacking 1,866 teachers due to not being able to recruit additional teachers. Of which, preschools are short of 816 people, primary schools are short of 334 people, secondary schools are short of 427 people and high schools (including vocational schools) are short of 289 people.

On August 13, 2025, the Provincial People's Committee issued a Decision to assign the number of employees receiving salaries from the state budget to public service units after the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units. On that basis, the Department of Education and Training and the People's Committees of communes and wards will receive, transfer, mobilize and recruit teachers to meet the needs for the new school year.

According to Ms. Thuy, to overcome the local shortage of teachers, the Department is advising the Provincial People's Committee to receive, transfer, and mobilize teachers from places with surplus to places with shortage throughout the province. At the same time, organize additional teacher recruitment according to the assigned payroll. "In case after receiving, transferring and recruiting, there is still a shortage, the Department will guide units to sign contracts according to Decree 111/2022/ND-CP with the contract targets assigned by the Provincial People's Council", Ms. Thuy emphasized.

The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long province also added that currently, the province's educational institutions still maintain their status, basically meeting the needs of teaching and learning. However, due to general difficulties in capital sources, the progress of investment in facilities and equipment is still slow, the number has not met requirements, especially teaching 2 sessions/day according to the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training.

"Vocational education - continuing education centers and continuing education centers also lack equipment and do not meet the requirements for innovating general education programs. Many schools are degraded, lacking department rooms, functional rooms, playgrounds, practice areas, etc. This affects the progress of building national standard schools, new rural programs and the goal of improving the quality of education. In addition, investment capital for the industry is still limited, mainly focusing on new rural communes and some urgent projects, while many other schools have not been allocated capital in a timely manner for construction and repair," said Ms. Thuy.

According to the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long province, in the coming time, the unit will advise the Provincial People's Committee to increase investment resources for education and training, especially in disadvantaged areas and ethnic minority areas. At the same time, promote the mobilization of social resources, attract sponsorship, aid and projects of organizations and individuals for education, especially preschools.

The Department will also continue to review and re-plan the network of schools, invest in teaching equipment, effectively exploit functional rooms, libraries, and department rooms; encourage teachers to make quality teaching equipment themselves. In addition, increase the application of information technology in managing school equipment and effectively deploy equipment management software. In addition, the Department of Education and Training will coordinate with the Department of Finance to advise the Provincial People's Committee to arrange and allocate capital appropriately; combine socialization in infrastructure investment; allocate and settle funds in accordance with regulations, ensuring effective use.

With the province's direction and the efforts of the entire industry, we believe that the current difficulties in the teaching staff and facilities will be gradually resolved, creating a premise to improve the quality of education, meeting the requirements in the new situation, Ms. La Thi Thuy affirmed.
