15 years ago, when I was a student, I often wrote collaborating articles for many news agencies. Both to satisfy his passion for writing and to earn more income while still in school.
In 2010, I wrote an introduction to two orphans in Quang Ngai, who are in difficult circumstances but study well and are determined. After posting, the students were invited to Hanoi to receive scholarships.
At that time, I received a call from Mr. Ngo Khac Vu - Teacher at Mo Duc 2 High School. The teacher shared that he often wrote articles introducing poor students to send to newspapers to find scholarships. Many students that the teacher introduced were taken to Hanoi by their families to receive scholarships.
After 15 years, Mr. Vu still silently helps poor students study well. Teachers strongly connect with donors and orient their careers so that they can be confident after graduation.
Meeting him again after 15 years, he said that he had just had a nose surgery for sinusitis, so he was still in pain, and was visited by many students. These are students who have been connected by their teachers to receive scholarships, accommodation and many other forms.
I asked him, after more than 15 years of working in this job, how many students have been helped, how much money has been mobilized and how many scholarships have been awarded to poor students who are good at studying. He smiled: I cant remember. Some children still regularly contact and visit. Some days I am busy with work and family. But the happiest thing is that they don't have to drop out of school halfway. Many students have become doctors, engineers, teachers... That is my greatest happiness".
Every time the school has new students admitted to university, Mr. Vu worries about those in difficult circumstances. As recently as the case of Dang Van Gia Huan - a student at Mo Duc High School No. 2, with 28.5 points in block A, passed the entrance exam to the Electronic Engineering major at the University of Science and Technology (VNU-HCM). Huan loves microchip design - a rapidly growing industry in Vietnam. However, due to his poor family, Huan faced the risk of dropping out of school.
Knowing the story, Mr. Vu connected with the press. After posting, many benefactors donated more than 270 million VND to Huan. The teacher instructed Huan to send money to the bank to get interest to pay for boarding for Huan's two younger siblings. The teacher also advised Huan to discuss with his father about welcoming his stepfather who was living with his stepmother to raise and send him to school properly. As for the 4-year study costs of Huan, a son from his hometown has taken care of them all.
Huan and his family also donated a part of their money to help a few other new students in difficult circumstances in Long Phung commune - also students of Mo Duc 2 High School.
Over the past 15 years, Mr. Vu has helped many poor students continue to go to school. For teachers, the success of their students is the greatest gift. Although he can't remember how many scholarships he has connected, he continues that silent work, so that each year, more dreams can be born.
