Nguyen The Quan is a 12A student at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted (Nghe An). The Quan's achievements contribute to bringing the Vietnamese delegation into the top 10 countries with the highest results at IPhO 2025. Notably, The Quan is also the contestant with the second highest practical exam score in the world.
Thus, in 2025 alone, the Nghe An male countryman has excellently won both Gold Medals at the International and Regional Olympic arenas.
Previously, in May, The Quan won the Gold Medal at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad with the highest score of the Vietnamese team, contributing to helping the Vietnamese team enter the top 5 countries and territories with the best results. When he was in grade 11, The Quan won a Bronze Medal at the 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Xuan Bao - homeroom teacher and also a Physics teacher of Nguyen The Quan - proudly shared: "I am very happy that Quan won the Gold Medal but there is absolutely no surprise about my achievements".
According to him, from the early years of high school, The Quan showed outstanding qualities: intelligence, hard work and especially passionate about Physics.
"Thi Quan has a special passion, spending a lot of time and effort on this subject" - the teacher commented.
As a homeroom teacher accompanying Quan for three years of studying, he not only teaches but also guides, provides review materials and closely checks his learning progress. "I often send questions and check the results to evaluate the amount of homework the students have completed. But Quan, he also proactively researched many other documents, showing a spirit of self-study and a strong desire to rise up" - the teacher said.
Although the journey to conquer Physics is not without hardships, Quan has always persevered. There was a memorable period when I did not make the 2024 International Physics Olympic team after the Asian competition.
"It was the saddest time for him. I had to be encouraged a lot" - he shared.
The Military Gold Medal this year not only brought pride to his family and himself, but also had great significance for the school.
"After 4 years, this is the first time Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted has had students return to the international Olympic arena. This achievement will strongly inspire future generations" - Mr. Bao said.
Hoping in The Quan's future, Mr. Bao believes that as long as he maintains his passion and enthusiasm for Physics or any field he chooses, Quan will definitely succeed.
"This achievement is a good start. But this is just the foundation. I need to try harder to truly contribute to society" - the teacher advised.
