One of the first schools that has been started and is under construction is the Boarding School for Primary - Secondary Schools (TH - THCS) in Phieng Khoai commune.
The school was built on the site of the current Phieng Khoai Secondary School, with an area of 4.9 hectares, with a total estimated investment of about 215 billion VND.
The project is invested by Son La Provincial Police. The scale of the school meets the learning and living needs of about 1,000 students. Completion time is in 2026.
Mr. Tran Nam Trung - Chairman of Phieng Khoai Commune People's Committee said that the local government is ready to create all favorable conditions for investors and contractors to speed up the construction progress.
"During the school construction process, the People's Committee of the commune will transfer all teaching activities of Phieng Khoai Secondary School in the 2025 - 2026 school year to Tam Thanh school, Kim Chung Primary School, and temporarily suspend cooking activities for boarding students" - Mr. Trung said.
In Chieng Son commune, the locality has chosen a location to build a school in sub-zone 2, located adjacent to Provincial Road 102, with an area of about 4.9 hectares.
Mr. Vu Thanh Hai - Chairman of Chieng Son Commune People's Committee said that 100% of households, individuals and organizations affected by the project agreed on the State's policy of land recovery to implement the project.
At the same time, the People's Committee of the commune has prepared and requested the Department of Construction to appraise the dossier to adjust 0.2ha of rural residential land, 4.7ha of agricultural land and 0.03ha of green land for urban public use to urban public service land to suit the purpose of school construction.
"The project is expected to start construction on October 10" - Mr. Hai said.
Similarly, in Long Sap commune, the People's Committee of the commune is planning to build a school in Phat village, with a total area of about 5 hectares. The location of the land adjacent to National Highway 43, about 2.2km from the commune People's Committee headquarters, is very convenient for electricity, water, transportation and has the ability to expand the planning of service works, residential areas...
"The implementation of the school construction policy has received high support from the people. The conditions for project implementation are basically favorable, in accordance with regulations" - Chairman of Long Sap Commune People's Committee Tran Xuan Thanh shared.
In Chieng Khuong, Muong Hung, Chieng Khoong, Sop Cop, Muong Lieo communes... are also ready to start construction of boarding schools for primary and secondary schools.
It is known that, implementing Conclusion No. 81-KL/TW of the Politburo on the investment policy for school construction for border communes, Son La province focused resources to invest in the construction of boarding schools at the inter-level of primary and secondary schools in 13 border communes.
Of which, 11 schools were newly built, 2 schools were renovated and upgraded. Each school is designed with a scale of serving 1,000 students or more, synchronous and modern facilities, meeting the living and learning conditions of boarding and semi-boarding students in remote areas.
The People's Committee of Son La province has also established a Steering Committee to direct the implementation of investment in the construction of Inter-level Boarding Schools for Primary and Secondary Schools in border communes, headed by Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
At the same time, issue operating regulations and assign specific tasks to Deputy Heads of the Committee and members of the Committee.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for the implementation of investment in the construction of boarding schools for primary and secondary schools in border communes of Son La province said that for communes that are still stuck in school construction locations, the Provincial People's Committee has directed close coordination with relevant departments and branches to soon unify and complete procedures. Construction must start by October 30, 2025 at the latest.
