A childhood lacking in love
The road from Na Lanh village, Na Son commune, Dien Bien province to the university lecture of Lo Thi Doan (born in 2007) was a tearful but also profound journey.
I was born without knowing my father's face, and in 2018, the biggest pain came when my beloved mother also left me forever. Doan became an orphan, relying on his grandparents.
"I have lived with my grandparents since I was a child. He is over 83 years old this year, she is also 75. Their health is getting worse and worse," said Doan.
Understanding that hardship, every time I come home from school or on holidays and Tet, I take the opportunity to go home to help and take care of my grandparents.
Pitying the hard work of her grandparents, the young student soon had a sense of independence. From junior high school, he studied medicine at a boarding school about 15km from his home. However, difficulties do not make him fall behind, on the contrary, I train Doan to be strong-willed and determined to study well to change his fate.
The turning point came when Doan passed the 10th grade entrance exam to Dien Bien Province Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities. Here, with the love and support of teachers and friends, my talent has shined.
Passionate about the heroic history of the nation, Doan has achieved achievements such as: 12 years of excellent student achievements; first prize in provincial History in grade 10; grades 11 and 12 won second prize in provincial History and was honored to be selected in the national excellent student competition team in grade 12.
Sweet fruits from love History
Continuous efforts have brought "sweet rewards". In the 2025 high school graduation exam, Doan achieved a total score of 26.25 in the C00 combination (Literature 8.5; History 8.5; Geography 9.25).
In particular, he was accepted as a first-time teacher in the History - Geography Pedagogy major at Hanoi National University of Education under the "direct admission, priority admission for candidates with outstanding abilities and achievements" with a total score of 29.04/30 points.
Talking about her choice, Doan confided: "My biggest dream is to become a teacher. I chose Hanoi National University of Education because this is the leading teacher training environment in the country. History is my favorite subject and I have pursued since high school".
Talking to Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong (homeroom teacher for 3 years) - Dien Bien Province Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities - said: "Duan is a very good student, conscious of striving to study strongly and always actively participate in school and class activities. You are a shining example of determination to overcome difficulties".
School day is approaching, the joy of new students is mixed with worries. The expensive cost of living in the capital is too big a burden for him.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong said that knowing her situation and determination, teacher Nguyen Manh Tuan (teacher at Tuan Giao High School, Dien Bien) has supported Doan with 2 million VND per month for the entire 4 years of university, starting from September 2025.
