From cold showers to warm water
These days, the dormitory of Mai Chau Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary & High School is busier as students return to school, preparing for the new school year.
This year, the school welcomes 90 6th and 10th grade students, bringing the total number of students in the whole school to 324.
For boarding students, the joy before the opening day this year also comes from something that seems small but is very practical: hot water has been brought to the bathrooms.
“Previously, especially in winter, we still had to take cold showers. If we wanted hot water, we had to go to people's houses to buy it. For boarding students, that amount of money is also a burden,” shared Bui Thi Tu Anh.

This year, that difficulty has been resolved when the school continues to receive support to invest in a new hot water system.
According to Decision No. 18 dated July 25, 2026 of the Management Council of the Community Fund for Natural Disaster Prevention, the school was sponsored 103.03 million VND to install a hot water system to serve the dormitory area.
From this funding source, 3 solar panels, 3 hot water boosters, 1 cold water booster, a pipeline system and 39 hot water taps were installed. The system brings hot water to the bathing area of 39 rooms in the dormitory area.
A warm gift before the opening day
Mai Chau is a highland area, where Thai, Mong, and Muong people mainly live. The economic conditions of many families are still difficult.
For children to go to school, especially to study and live long days at boarding schools, it is a great effort of each family.

Ms. Dinh Thi Hao, Principal of Mai Chau Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary & High School, shared: "With 100% of students being children of ethnic minorities in difficult areas, the school always tries to prepare the best conditions for them to study with peace of mind. The hot water system supported right before the new school year is truly a meaningful gift, adding joy and motivation for them to enter the new school year.
Up to now, the preparations for the new school year at the school have been basically completed. Boarding rooms are neatly arranged, and books are ready.
Behind the still unfamiliar faces is the care of family, teachers and the community.
And from the new water taps, warm water flows to each bathroom. A small change but enough for highland children to feel more clearly the sharing on the journey to school.
Teachers and students of Mai Chau Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary & High School enter the new school year with joy and determination to achieve the highest achievements.
